Is it okay to by rabbit food from a feed store? Are these foods just ment for rabbits that will be slaughtered or bred? Or are they fine for the pet rabbits?

I used to feed oxbow pellets, but my herd has doubled and i am finding it hard to afford!

        thank you so much!

It might be ok, you just have to check that it is timothy based and check the nutrition on the back. Bring an empty oxbow bag to the store and compare the nutrient facts, ex. protein, fiber, fat, calcuim ect. If it is very different than the oxbow I might reconsider using the feed store food.

Yea oxbow does take a toll on your wallet, but I only have two bunnies so it is not a problem. Also to save some more money you could buy baled hay from a farmer, that really helped me. Also for litter you could use wood stove pellets (no accelerants though). All of those ways are some great ways to save money if you decide to keep with the Oxbow.

I agree with Moonlight Wolf. It may be locally made too so it may be fresh. I guess you need to find out more information on the fiber content and stuff.

I get my hay from a feed store so I checked all of those large 50 lb. bags, and at my store found that they were all alfalfa based due to the fact that they were produced for meat rabbits, so the alfalfa helps them grow quickly. I’m sure that someone at the store would be able to tell you quickly what all the pellets are made out of.

Just check the ingredients-make sure it’s timothy hay based, and doesn’t have bits of junk in it (like seeds and stuff) but should be fine to feed
