So I’m on a mission to start replacing all of my cosmetics, I’ve had most of it for way, way, way longer than anyone should own a cosmetic product, lol, and I’d like to make it all as cruelty free as possible. Obviously I can research a company’s practice, but it’s a lot harder to find out if they make a good product without lots of expensive trial and error. So, without starting any kind of debate or such about cosmetics and animal testing, I’d like to hear from people what cosmetics they like!  Is there a company that makes favorite products generally, or someone who makes a particular product really well?

urban decay!! I love them and they are known for their cruelty free cosmetics, and even vegan! “We don’t do animal testing. How could anyone?” is printed on all of their cosmetic boxes. Check out their page for more info and other animal-cruelty free programs they’re affiliated with they have a variety of cosmetics but I love them because it’s good quality and highly pigmented eyeshadows. THey’re a very vibrant brand, but they do have something for everyone.

There was another thread on this so you might want to look for it. I think a lot of people mentioned their favorite products.

I like Jason for shampoos and stuff. I was using Clearly Natural for bar soap, but someone on here suggested I try Kirk’s Castile soap. My husband liked it, so I might get some more of that next time. Urban Decay makes good makeup. You can also try Clinique. They swear they don’t test on animals but for some reason won’t prove it to PETA (which has a huge list of confirmed cruelty-free products). Kiss My Face has good skin care products too. Oh and LUSH, I love their stuff too! Their bath bombs are awesome!

I really love the brand Gabriel Cosmetics. It’s 100% vegan, so not only do they not test on animals, but there are no animal products in their makeup! It’s really nice stuff, and I use their concealer, powder, mascara, and eye liner. They also make another vegan/cruelty-free line called Zuzu Luxe. Check them out online!

I love Burt’s Bees and Kiss My Face for lotions and chapstick. Aveda for shampoos, conditioners, and other hair products. I use Bare Escentuals for eyeshadow, concealer, and foundation, which also has contributed to me having 100% clear skin for months and months. I use neutrogena for face washes, eyeliner and mascara, they are cruelty free but their parent company is not.

I adore Smashbox. I think all of my cosmetics except for maybe one are Smashbox. They’re expensive, but I find they last for a while and just work so well. I’m an especially big fan of their blush (especially OGlow), cream eye liners, concealers, and highlighting cream.

If you are looking for something you can buy anywhere, Almay & Revlon are cruelty-free.

Here is a great list of products that do and do not test on animals:

Wow, I just checked out that PETA list, looked at the list of companies that do test on animals and found 6 products that I buy on a regular basis… EEEK! I am going to be more careful. What do you suppose is the difference between “does not test on animals” and “cruelty free”?

Those two things are basically the same. However, there is a difference between “cruelty free” and vegan products; cruelty free products don’t test on animals but may contain animal products. Vegan products do not test on animals and do not contain animal products. There are many different animal products in makeup and body care products, so if you’re concerned about that then I would only buy vegan makeup, etc.
