When Gus had a gut stasis scare over Christmas time, he took a week to get back to ‘normal’ but then even after that time he was still acting oddly.  Kinda quiet, not following me around as much, and mostly staying under my bed sleeping.  He still binkied occasionally and was eating fine, but just seemed kind of ‘dull’.  I didn’t really think much of it, as it’s summer time and hot, I thought he was just being lazy.

Last week he had another gut stasis scare with a stay over at the vets, and I was expecting more of the same – long recovery, quiet bun.

But he recovered SO fast – even just a day later he was back to binkying and eating almost normally.  Since then, it’s like he’s got a new zest for life! He’s so much more active and energetic, following me everywhere, eating hay constantly (I didn’t realize till now that he hadn’t been eating as much hay recently) and he’s barely spent any time under the bed.

Anyone else had this sort of experience after an illness? I wonder if he had been feeling off this entire time (despite having a routine vet check in January that came up clear).

I’m just loving having such a happy healthy bun back again

That’s wonderful that he recovered quickly

Hopefully the vet has a good treatment plan for him now that can be started right away. I think the sooner the treatment the faster the recovery. And yes quite possible he was still a bit off from the first bout!

That’s so great!! Yes, sometimes my bunnies have had little mini-bouts that resolve in 36 hours or so. And they often have had extra zest for life (and extra snuggling) for a few days after recovering, like they’re so happy and grateful to be feeling better. It’s the cutest! So glad your Gus is better.
