I feel awful…a few days ago (3-4?) I did a bonding session with the buns, and they got in a quick scuffle before I could separate them. There weren’t any injuries that I saw, and I didn’t think much more of it. I was knocked out with a nasty cold that started that night and I’m barely getting over now, so I haven’t been able to do any more sessions. Today I was down on the floor playing with Rufus, when I noticed a bit of red in his eye. I lifted his eyelid a bit more, and it looks like he was bitten or scratched in his eye! It doesn’t seem to bother him at all, he’s been acting/eating/pooing normally…but I thought I’d post it here tonight to see what you guys think, and will call our vet in the morning. I feel so bad that I didn’t catch it earlier, poor guy!

Ouch–poor bun! I’m guessing the vets will probably give you some drops and/or ointment for the eye to help it heal quickly and avoid infection. My bun had a corneal abrasion last summer, and that’s how we treated it. But we also disccovered that he had uveitis and a cataract (likely due to E. cuniculi infection), so… we’re still treating him! But his eye healed up very nicely with treatment.

Not sure. Maybe all rabbits eyes are like that if you lift the lids. If in doubt, I would see a vet.

His other eye is clear other than a few light veins. I ended up taking him in this morning, and it is indeed a good scratch. But it missed his cornea, yay!! So it should clear up without any complications, the vet gave me antibiotic drops to put in 3 times a day. I’m glad it’s not too bad…we went through a bit of a nightmare last year with my oldest dog, he ended up losing an eye to a luxated lens (and is on 2 drops 2x/day in his other eye) so I’m a bit paranoid now about eye issues. Thanks for the reassurances littlemissflip and sarita!

{{Vibes}} Comparing to the other eye was a great idea-perfect way to see if it was abnormal. Hope all is well-please let us know!!

Quick update, Rufus’ scratched eye looks soooo much better after 3 days of drops. Almost back to normal and ready to resume bonding haha. Fun. So $80+ for the first day of bonding…really makes me wish we had one of those centers that you can drop them off to be bonded at nearby! :p

Bing had an injury on his cornea in December and it took 3 weeks of Tobramycin to heal up. He has a little scar on his eye, but it didn’t seem to bother him. My vet said she thinks he might be self-conscious about it around the ladies…LOL.
