Hmm. I just noticed some Eye goop in the corner of Zelda’s eyes. Just a little, some got on ym face when I held her. There was a small string of it handing off her eye. I haven’t seen this before, and it wasn’t a lot. any ideas? anything I should watch out for?

After we had Bumblebunny for a few months we noticed a small white object floating on his eye and it seemed to move around. We scheduled a vet appointment right away and while we were waiting in the exam room bunny did some grooming and he removed the spot. Since the vet could not see what was there and saw nothing was wrong with the eye, he told us this occurs in rabbits. He told us what they were, but I don’t remember any more. He said we should watch for this and if it does not go away in a day or so, or if there is any change in the eye bring him in since eye problems can be serious in rabbits. Since that appointment we have noticed the floating spots on the eye a number of times, but bunny seems to get rid of them by himself within a day or so. He has been in for two regular check-ups since that first episode and his eyes have been fine. I hope you are seeing the same thing and don’t have any problems.

Some bunnies get eye gunk- my friend was telling me that her male bun always gets it and his wife bun grooms it off of him. My buns gets a little bit sometimes. I if it’s just a little and it’s white in color, it’s probably fine. But if it’s yellow/green or keeps building up so it has to be wiped more than once every day or if it’s so profuse that her vision seems affected) I would take her to the vet, cuz that could be an infection or conjunctivitis (if rabbits get that).

Bumblebunny- I love when you take the bunnies to the vet and they “cure” whatever problem they have in the waiting room. I have often wondered if my vet thinks I imagine things when I do that- lol. Oh well- a clean bill of health is always nice to get . Rabbit eyes are weird anyway- when I first found BunBun I thought he had cararacts, the way the light refllects kinda white/blue off his eyes, but then I noticed that all bunny’s eyes look like that.

All bunnies seem to get a wee bit of eye “sleepies” in the corners, and most seem to like to hold still and let you wipe it off for them gently. I do this nearly every morning for Sammy. It’s like we groom them a bit. She has more than Spockie did, and she has had some large, flat white things floating in her eye that I was finally able to pluck out. She didn’t seem to be able to get it out herself since it was smack in the middle and moving. It was like white mucus. I reported it to my vet and it wasn’t anything to be concerned about.

But Spockie had a “weepy” eye, clear, liquid discharge from the corner, and THAT needed treatment. Just a diagnosis from the vet and a tube of ointment application for a couple of days and it went away. It was a blocked tear duct – very common. So yes, if it’s not white and removable, preferably by Zelda herself, get it looked at. But generally, it’s just normal sleep stuff.
