        Hi guys,

I just took my rabbit Thomas to the vet again cause his eye still hasn’t gotten better, and it’s been a month. (and running out of the ointment!) But this time, I had school, so I got my sister to bring him.

Thing is, she forgot to ask how you adminster drops. So far, I’ve been doing my best, but it looks like a lot just gets wasted on his eyelashes. Is there some trick to this…? I read about how you can make a little pocket with his lower lid, but he scrunches his eye so tight it sorta seems impossible…

When Monkey needed ehrs, I sat on the floor with her, picked her up, and nestled her on my legs pulled up so she was between my chest and legs. Its the only way I could get her to sit for them. I’d kind of hold her eye open and drop one in, she’d blink it into her eye and I rarely had to give her a 2nd drop due to most of it escaping. She was a good bun about the drops

I drop them in the corner of the eye closest to the nose. I hold the eye gently open, and squeeze the drops into that spot (you know where eye sleepies develop in people) then let them close and gently massage the area.

Bun eye probs so much easier then with dogs-bunnies are flattered that you are grooming their eyes. Dogs want you to buzz off

I also put a drop of an ointment I got from the vet into the corner of Spockie’s eye, though I didn’t have to hold it open. I would hold him a bit still with head pets with one hand while getting it into the corner. Squeezing his eye shut right after it was in actually helped because this kind was a cream that melted into liquid with his body heat and lubricated the rest of the eye that way.

Stormy is also on eye drops right now due to redness in his eyes. The vet showed me to hold his head and gently tilt it sideways so his eye is facing up a bit and drop the stuff in. Then I very gently massage his closed eye lids to make sure it doesn’t run out of his eye. Place papaya treat in mouth

when i had to administer drops to mj he also squeezed his eyes shut very tightly. for me, the key was to not pull upward on only the upper lid but also to pull down on the lower lid, forcing his eye open. once i figured out that his lower lid needed more pulling than the upper lid, it was very easy to put the drops in.

                  good luck!
