As some of you know, I’ve been supplementing Luna’s diet with alfalfa cubes for healthy weight gain. She LOVES them. She knows they are kept on table so when she begs for them she periscopes around the table. I don’t give her the cubes when she begs; I give her head pets instead. Now, new behavior, I’ll be sitting on the floor with her and she will start digging furiously at my legs and nip. Even when I give her attention she will push past my hand and keeps digging/nipping. She will keep doing it even when I change the place where I am sitting, and won’t stop unless I stand up or leave the room briefly.

Is this her new way of begging since I’m not giving her the cubes when she periscopes? Or is she trying to tell me something else?

(fyi, I do a high pitched squeal when she nips but I think she knows I’m faking it because she doesn’t react )

Thor does the same thing when she wants attention… perhaps it’s not treats she wants but attention from you?

I got a lot of this behavior about 2 months after adopting Thor, I’m not sure what caused its onset. For me, squealing also didn’t work for this behavior. However, once it started I responded by just picking up my feet and tucking them under me (or away from the floor) anytime she dug or nipped. That way she learned that when she did that the feet went away. It’s been a while now and she hasn’t dug at my legs for months, so I think it worked!
