Hi all,
Sorry this is long…..
I have been on here a few times over the years with a similar concern…and every time it happens I get so frustrated because I thought I had finally figured him out. Blu is almost 3 and has always had an extra sensitive tummy. I don’t give him pellets at all, he loves loves hay, often more than salad, so I know he gets enough…and I give him half the greens that I give my other bunny. He can eat more, but whenever I give him more (I always give 1 cup AM, 1 cup PM) he ends up having mushy poop. He has plenty of normal ones in his litter box, but where he lounges he’ll leave a mess.
I have found that certain greens will cause him more issues if I give too many of them, but then sometimes I can give him them and he’s fine. Most of the time he does well with the diet I’ve established for him, and he’s always hyper, happy, acting like a clown Blu. So I don’t worry too much when this happens, but it’s frustrating and I want to figure out what/if I’m doing anything wrong.
This happens maybe once a month, more often once every few months, and usually goes for a few days and I hold back on the greens a bit to get him back to normal. It almost always happens when we leave them with a pet sitter…I think because feeding times are off a bit, she can’t feed them as early as I normally do. He’ll go to sleep if the salad is too late and then will eat once he’s up, and if it’s too close to when he gets dinner salad I think it’s too much at once for his system. That’s just my hypothesis.
Another idea is if it has to do with stress at all? He can get skittish from time to time and I think he senses animals outside..we have a lot of deer and other wildlife that hang out in our yard. I think animals can sense that stuff? He gets spooked easily, even with shadows on the wall/floor. I can’t figure him out. And like I said most of the time he’s completely fine. And my other bunny gets scared of things too (like all bunnies!), but she doesn’t have the same problems.
Anyone have anything similar? Or any advice? I hope this made sense and thank you for anyone who read the whole thing!!
