Ive noticed that recently my youngest bun pip has been pulling out a lot of his hair from his chest and top of his back legs. He is currently on his own as my other rabbit hasnt been spayed. i would get it done but she needs her front teeth removed aswell which is costing me £250 for both so ive been saving up. please tell me this isnt a sign of being on his own and going insane

Sounds like puberty to me – hormones.

he has been snipped about 2 months ago, would he still get hormones that make him wanna pull his hair out?

Have you actually seen him pulling it? Could it be he is just shedding?

Wonder if it’s stress or boredom.

Sarita is right, it could be from lack of stimulation/toys.

I read in the annual rabbits mag last night that rabbits, boy or female, unfixed or fixed wil pull fur out if they are bored. Have you given him like a newspaper or phonebook to shred?

If you are planning on bonding him with the girl you could give him a stunt bunny (plushie toy rabbit) for now. It can come in useful when you begin bonding to transfer between them and get them used to each others smell. It migh prove enough of a distraction for him currently.

Has he had any health issues in the past?

Try to get a toy bunny that’s specifically made for pets (no plastic eyes, tags, etc.).

I took pip to the vets today and they think its a case of mites as he has a few scratches on himself, so ive got some medication for him hopefully his fur will start to grow back
