My bunny Marvin is always waiting for me, with his paws in between the bars of his cage and sniffing and acting excited. I pet him, give him treats, hay, fresh water, and love, but he never seems satisfied. He doesn’t eat the treats or anything, just sniffs them, and just seems dissapointed. I can’t put him in the outside pen every time I go see him, which is what I thought he wanted. But I did, and he was excited, but he did the same thing when I came to the outside pen to put him back in. I don’t know if he is expecting something, or what. Any ideas?

Hi. How much time do you spend with Marvin? If you are only visiting him from time to time while he sits in his cage and you just periodically let him out for exercise in an outside pin, leaving him unsupervised, I would venture to guess that he’s lonely. I agree with LoveChaCha; he wants more lovin’ and someone to keep him company while he plays.

I think he is expecting “I pet him, give him treats, hay, fresh water, and love”. Sounds good to me.

Yeah, that’s probably right. I don’t spend as much time with him as I wish I could, but it is good because I just got out of school for the summer… So now I can spend more time with him, which will be nice! By the way, when I play with him, what toys are good for him to play with that I can be involved in? I am trying to play more with both of my bunchkies, and try to make up for being so busy during end of year tests… so I hope that will help. Thanks for answering- I was a little worried and wanted other peoples opinions!

You can tell what toys bunnies like by what they try to do, like whether they like to jump up or dig or toss things.
I would start with an empty toilet paper roll, toss it and roll it to him. He may pick it up in his teeth and fling it around, or run away with it. Also, willow rings are good for tossing and tugging. You can play chase sometimes: a bunny is afraid to be chased unless he initiates it and it’s with someone they know well. So you can run away a few feet and look back telling him to come and get you. If he approaches, you can chase back a little, then stop and run away again. My bunny Spockie used to chase me a lot.

Aww, that is so cute… I will have to try that with him. He might just go for that- he has so much energy! He DOES like picking things up in his mouth, so… But that would be a fun game to play with him and I think he would like that I played with him instead of watching him play with toys.I wasn’t sure how to play with him, (I’m fairly new to my bunnies) because he just ran around, but I’m sure he will like doing that!

Throwing things is a great game to play with your bun! And the chasing thing is so funny! Thane follows me EVERYWHERE. Even if I try to leave the sitting room, he’ll get as far as the door and sit there till I come back!

Bunnies like to play by themselves I’ve noticed, they’re not like dogs really. I made a little house out of a cardboard box for my one and he loves it!

Scooter Beans loves his paper grocery size bag. He’ll get inside and tear it up from all angles. Not very interactive, but fun to watch and cheap : ) He will occasionally play tug of war with an apple wood stick, but not for very long. I just try to keep giving him new stuff to explore and change it up to keep him interested. I love the name Marvin!!!

I had him out yesterday on the grass and he was super hyper! He was jumping all over, and I think he really loves being outside. I am going to make a cardboard box house for when my bunnies go outside… I think they would like it a lot! Thanks, my sister named him. We had a girl and a boy and it was going to be Misty and Marvin (since they were a pair) but I changed her name to Felicity.
