I’m thinking abut getting a baby bunny and once he or she is fixed I want to bond them with Harley and Thumper for a trio. I would like to know if a bonded trio needs significantly more space than a bonded pair. Right now Harley and Thumper have about 80 sq ft to run around in while I’m at work and they have access to the rest of the apartment when I’m home (not that they take advantage of that). Will that 80 sq. ft become too small when they become a trio?

21sqft per bun is what is recommended, so that’s perfect. But you should also be prepared in case you end up with three separate buns. Sometimes the bond can break between the initial pair when attempting the trio.

The current plan is the baby will stay in my room (~70 sq.ft) and there will be bonding sessions in the kitchen (~50 sq. ft.). If Harley and Thumper break up, I will move Thumper into the Kitchen and lay down some carpeting for her. The bonding sessions will then get moved to the living room or the bathroom.

That sounds like a great plan! Before you start trying to bond a trio, make sure you really disinfect the kitchen to make it a neutral space, and keep all three buns out of there. If you try to bond in territory either have been in, things can get territorial and it won’t work as well.

Good luck on your future trio

That sounds like a huge amount of space!
