Excessive peeing on the bed??

I have a male holland lop who’s turning 1 tomorrow. I’ve had him since he was 6 months old and there’s been a lot of problems with his health but he’s doing better. He got cuniculi at his previous home and once I found out it was too late so now he’s completely blind. I’ve pretty much been to the vet 6 times in less than 5 months. He also struggled with eating and lost a lot of weight but now he’s eating again and getting closer to an ideal weight.

He’s neutered and litter trained. He’s mostly free roam ( currently he’s not allowed into the den because i’m sorting through stuff I want to get rid off and it’s just not safe for him) which has pissed him off lmao because he hates not being allowed somewhere. (sorry for all this extra info that’s probably irrelevant)

He’s been peeing in my bed a lot lately and I honestly can’t figure out why. At the beginning he did like marking my apartment even after his surgery but he did eventually grow out of it but now my bed has become a problem again. We sleep usually together but since he does it while I’m asleep I can’t really punish him because it could have been an hour ago or so. And sometimes he pees there when I go to the store quickly and leave him alone for like 30 minutes, at most.

Does anyone know why he suddenly feels the need to pee in my bed? And also it has started getting more frequent. I also change his litter box once a day or every other day, depending on how it has been used.

I also like taking him with me when I go visit my parents and he has now peed twice at my mother’s even though he has a litter box there. And not allowing him into my bed is not an option – I tried that in the beginning but that little jerk would not give up. Most people don’t believe he’s blind with the way he climbs everywhere.

My mom thinks I spoil him too much and since I’ve raised him in quarantine we have become quite dependent on each other. Could this affect his sudden behaviour or does he not feel comfortable enough at home? Or could he be mad at me and this is him protesting?

Bed-peeing is a pretty common problem, even in neutered buns. Something about the soft texture and strong smell of humans can trigger bunnies to pee there. Another variable is that he had EC, which can cause incontinence and other urinary issues. Sometimes there can be EC flair-ups as well, so you might talk to your vet to make sure he doesn’t need another round of EC meds. Does his peeing seem to be random, or more like marking?

Ruling out medical causes, some people have had luck putting a shower curtain under a blanket on the bed, which blocks the smell of the bed to hopefully prevent the urge to mark, and also makes clean up easier. There are also a ton of waterproof dog blankest out there now, so maybe something like that would work?

I doubt it has to do with him being spoiled or protesting, but if things get out of hand you might consider penning him at night. I tend to do this with my senior bun. He would be fine to free-roam 24/7, but I’ve noticed his litter box habits are better and he marks less when he’s confined near his litter box for at least part of the day.
