Took her in this morning.  It was so hard to leave her there with strangers! Packed her a snack lunch, made sure she was all settled in her clean bedding.  I could tell she was nervous.

Anything I should be prepared for?  Any insider tips?  I’ve read info about post-op care, but I was hoping someone could give me some special advice, or any unique stories or tips.

        Poor baby!

No… she said they’d call after the surgery was complete.  I gave her some parsley (her fav) for when she wakes up, and have plenty for when she comes home. She’s getting pain meds.  Do I need to make her a collar so she doesn’t pick the stiches, or just wait and see if she does then worry?

Most rabbits don’t need a collar after getting fixed (I was one of the unfortunate ones who had to keep my mini-rex collared for about 2 weeks after his neuter, but the vet told me it’s pretty uncommon). When I spayed my female rabbit she didn’t pick at it. It healed up nicely.

                Wishing Evie a speedy recovery!!!

ps. expect severe “stink eye” for a few days when you get her home

Oh boy! I’ve NEVER seen stink eye like what she’s giving– she’s actually squinting to glare at me. HAHA.

But, seriousoly, I’m a bit worried because I think she’s licking it a lot. She didn’t move until this morning, and she didn’t eat a lot (just a big handful of parsley), but she seemed curious this morning. I let her come out of her cage so I could see the surgery site and give meds.

No way was she letting me do anything. I got a peek at the stitches and they look fine. But I’m worried about her licking it… should I also be worried about her appetite?

I wish I could have taken a picture of the glare she gave me, it was priceless.

is she licking the actual stitches or around the area? she might be trying to clean herself. if she starts trying to bite at the stitches or they look red/inflamed/or really bad, i’d notify your vet to see if he wants to do an e-collar or what…

Licking is OK, you just need to be sure that she does not try to pull out the sutures or bite off the scab. Check the wound for signs of infection: redness, hot to the touch, excessive swelling, oozing. Hopefully she’ll come around quickly!
