So I posted about a week ago that I was going to adopt that gorgeous rex from the shelter and then I saw the most atrocious CL posting. Free rabbit, which I see quite frequently on there. Well they had adopted her from a shelter a few years ago and she’s not getting taken care of anymore. The cage rarely gets cleaned, they couldn’t afford to get her nails clipped, and she never gets to run around cause she doesn’t like their dog!!
I felt sooo bad!! I drove an hour to go meet “bunny” (that’s what they named her). The family was really nice and just didn’t know anything about rabbits. They kept her in a glass enclosure (you could fit about 2 of her in their shoulder to shoulder). I was really mad though cause they had a HUGE fenced in yard they could just let the dog run around in for awhile and let the rabbit have a turn running around in the house. But nope the poor thing stayed in this lil cramped glass cage all the time. I understand they had a herding dog and he was doing what came natural but he had a huge yard to play in when it should have been bunny playtime. The bunnys nails were the longest I’ve ever seen!! She was shedding more than I’ve ever seen any animal shed. She had no hay just pellets and water!!
So I scooped her up and took her home with me. I couldn’t wait another day to clip her nails. I know this added to her stress a little bit but they were soooo bad. So I rolled her up bunny burrito style and took care of them. She really liked being brushed so I did that for an hour and the shedding is under control now (I could make a sweater out of the hair that came off her!!). She now lives her big cage in my living room. I’ve spent most of the time during the last few days hanging out in there leaving her cage door open. She runs and binkies ALL over my living room!! Her personality has come out soo quickly!! I’m soo happy to have saved her from that terrible situation. I do feel bad about the rabbit in the shelter. I really want to save that one too, I know I can’t save them all. But at least I know she’s getting taken care of and some effort is put into ensuring her a good home.
I gave “bunny a real name, Lola the lop!!
Here’s a few pictures, there will be more to come!!

The pics didn’t come out. Well congratulations you and the bun both. Her on her new home and you on your new bun. That is great she is already running and doing binky’s. I just know she is delighted to be with you. We all would love to see her pics. ![]()
It seems I’ve reached my hourly download limit with geocities?? that’s weird/new. The temporarily disables everything when that happens I guess within the hour they pictures should be viewable.
Oh hi! I wanted to say how wonderful you are! I almost cried. ALMOST! Do you have any other buns? You seem to know a lot! lol Cant wait for the pics to work! CONGRATS!![]()
awww! i’m so glad you got her outta that situation… why on earth would you go thru the trouble of adopting a rabbit only to give it away a few weeks later? unbelievable. some people. sheesh. but anyways… i’m so excited for this sweet bun. the pics didn’t work for me either, so i hope you can get them up soon… i’m looking forward to seeing Lola!
you did the right thing, roro!! and a GREAT thing too!! free rabbit on cl…you know where she would have ended up if you wouldn’t have gotten her!! I’m sure lola is much more happy now…poor little bunny. how ppl can be so ignorant is beyond me.
but you and lola are probably meant to be together
how long had she been with that family?
can’t wait for the pictures to show…
*HUGS*
Congratulations on the new addition! Some bunnies just GET YOU somehow so maybe the rex just wasn’t to be. At least you know she’s been cared for at the shelter and from memory she was a stunner, so no doubt someone will adopt her and love her to bits.
As for Lola, sounded like she needed you more. Well done for taking her on and I’m really glad to see she’s displaying happiness at her new circumstances. That she allowed you to groom her for an hour says to me she was craving attention.
Looking forward to pics and stories! Once again, GOOD ON YOU!
n.b. Beka, I think Roro said they had “Bunny” for a few YEARS
and then decided to give her away. I don’t know if this is the case but it would be terrible if she was kept in that glass box for that long.
oh. YEARS!!!!!!! my eyes are playing tricks on me it seems. well, in that case i am esp. glad you got her. could you imagine being in a little glass box for YEARS?! yikes!!!!! poor bun.
A glass jail… Talk about the glass ceiling. Years oh thats so stupid. Why can’t people see to educate themselves on their pets needs. Well when you got a woman putting 5 kids in front of a kitchen door to eat on the floor and we are trying to get n and out the kitchen to bring the food out for the people.. Then I can see people being too stupid to learn about pets. Gosh.
Bun is finally out of jail Bun is gona love it with you.
Yay! The pics have arrived! Is that after you’ve groomed her? She looks surprisingly healthy considering from where you found her. Glad you said she’s run about and binkied etc because Im afraid to say it but from those pics, looks like you’ve got a disapproving bunny on your hands!
I suppose she had lots of time to practice that expression in the former home.
Hope you don’t mind a little suggestion – perhaps put some cardboard down on the cage floor for Lola’s feet. The wires can be a bit harsh on their feet. Or have you already? Thinking she might be sitting on it!
yes she looks quite dissaproving in her all her pictures, I think she really doesn’t like having her picture taken!! Tomorrow I was going to see if the grocery store would give me some free cardboard to put down since she’s a big girl I don’t want her getting sore hocks. She does have a towel in there that she sits on sometimes. (she also likes to dig on it) I’m also going to pick up some pineapple (maybe papaya if they have some) and give her a little cause I’m sure with all that fur she’s had to have swallowed some.
I DO know what happens to small free animals on craigslist and it makes me sad ![]()
I think someone asked me if I’ve had bunnies before and the answer is yes!! I owned 4 dutch bunnies when I was 15, I even have a picture of me and one of them!

Don’t mind the editing job, my sister did it. Wow this is an OLD picture me and Dustin (5 years ago!)!! Aren’t his markings beautiful?? I never did make it to a show with him. He was the most mild mannered bunny I’ve ever had, he would go into a bunny trance immediately in my lap when I laid him on his back, he’d even sometimes fall asleep like that!! He’s not even a year old in this picture and I’d still have them all but I re-homed them when my parents divorced and my step dad got the house and I couldn’t have them at our new place. I felt good about placing dustin though, my friends brother was mildly autistic and took to dustin right away, and dustin was so mild mannered he loved being held for hours so it worked out really well. The rest of them got placed with another friend of mine who had bunnies for years.
Awww beautiful bunny and I’m sure she’s ecstatic you rescued her!! Welcome to binkybunny!!
My gosh, what a beautiful bunny! o_o And you are beautiful too for rescuing her from that terrible place! She is going to do much better with you I am sure!
Welcome to BinkyBunny! It’s great to have you here!

Congrats to you and your adorable new bun!
Awww, pretty!
Congrats on saving the poor thing! Sad about the rex… they’re so lovely though, I’m sure someone will save it!
Welcome to Binky Bunny!
