Hello, I’m new here! I’ve been reading posts on this forum for a few weeks and finally decided to joined. I would like some opinions whether or not equine fresh is safe to use for rabbit litter? I’m currently using yesterday’s news cat version for my rabbits and ferrets. I’ve decided to switch my ferrets litter to equine fresh, because I’ve talked to other ferret owners on a ferret forum I’m on who use it and/or wood stove pellets. Going through 2-4 bags of yesterday’s news a week just for my ferrets alone became pretty costly so that’s why I’m switch to equine fresh. Plus they like to dig in their litterbox and throw the litter out and since I only paid $5.69 for 40 lbs I won’t have to stress about them wasting litter. I’ve read on this forum about some people using wood stove pellets and feline pine. I read the back of the feline pine bag and it basically said the same thing as the equine fresh, and that their basically made the same why. But I figured I’d ask go ahead and ask on here just be on the safe side.

welcome here! absolutely you can use Equine Fresh. i think it’s pretty much the exact same thing as the wood stove pellets but maybe the pellets are slightly larger… but still safe. pelleted pine is fine to use, but not the shavings (they’re bad due to the phenols that are released during processing).

i hear you on the cost, it does get very expensive to use the petstore litters, especially when you have multiple critters! i’d rather spend less on a safe litter… it’s hard to cut costs on food and hay b/c it’s so important for their health that they get the right diet…

Okay, thanks! I thought it would be okay to use since it was safe for ferrets, but I wanted to be sure first. I know that you can’t use cedar or pine shaving for rabbit or ferrets. I try to save where i can especially on litter since only 1 place close to me carries yesterday’s news and only the 13.5 lbs for $7 and using 2-4 adds up pretty quick. I know what your talking about not cutting costly on food and hay since i feed my ferrets the higher and more expense food and my rabbit eat oxbow. So try to save where I can.

              Welcome to binkybunny

Using the Equine Fresh is a great idea, I use Lonestar bedding which is a similar product, and I love how well it works. Also, I can compost the bunny litter, hay, Lonestar bedding and all!
