Guys im really stressed out and crying right now my dad came to visit but i wasnt home i had left with my daughter to the market. Anyways when i came back my dad was in the house and i went to look at the babes and one of them had blood all over his face. I though he had hurt himself it turns out Zoe is the one bleeding!!! EVERY TEAT is bleeding!!!! my dad put Zoe into feed the babes and came back out like that!!! What do i do i have no car right now so i cant take her to the vet. Could the babes have bitten her?!!! she was perfectly fine yesterday even after the last feeding! Please i need some advice i dont want anything bad to happen to Zoe! I dont get my car till tomorrow. and the vet is about 1 hr away. I would take her in the bus but that would be way to stressful for her!! Please some advice…
The only thing I can tell you is to call a vet.
I did but they told me i have to take her in they cant give me any advice over the phone. Her Vet that sees her all the time is on vacation! The one that is there is a real witch!!! Can i put anything on her, is it possible the babes bit her?! or does she have something else?!
Have you cleaned her off? Is she still bleeding?
I’m not sure why she’d be bleeding from every teat. Even if one baby bit her, I doubt all the babies would bite her at the same time.
It’s possible that a baby bit one or two teats and then smeared blood on all of the teats, making it look like they were all bloody. As long as the bleeding has stopped, she’s probably fine for now. It would probably be best to get her to a vet for a checkup – just to make sure nothing weird is going on – as soon as you can.
If you can’t get the bleeding to stop, I’ve used a styptic (spelling?) pencil on small wounds. (I used it on a bird’s toe once) You can get them in the men’s shaving section in most stores like WalMart.
I cleaned herr with some warm water and gauze the bleeding has stopped but her teats look really red. I was thinking about putting neosporin to avoid infection but i dont know if thats a good idea. I will take her to the vet tomorrow. why would the bunnies bite her??? should i
should i go buy KRM for the bunnies right now since i really doubt she is gonna want to feed them….
Oh gosh… so scary.
Apparently neosporin is okay for bunnies, as long as it isn’t the kind with pain relief, which is toxic to bunnies.
If the wounds don’t look too big, I would try the neosporin until you can get her into the vet.
Keep us posted!!!
guys i think the bleeding might not have been from the babes though… i think Zoe might be sick…. ive noticed her urine has been smelling REALLY bad. Im thinking she might have some sort of infection, i just chaged her litter 2 days ago and it SMELLS REALLY bad (her urine). It wasnt like that before. i know rabbits have really strong urine but her’s is REALLY bad this started about a week ago. I just thought it smelled bad because she eats SO MUCH! im scared she might have something really bad with her. Ive beed trying to think things through and like Beka27 said i doubt every bunny bit her. how about if she no longer has milk and the bunnies nursed so hard they made her bleed. can her milk dry up from one day to the other???
I would get her to a vet ASAP. And maybe the babies shouldn’t be nursing her, just in case she is sick and could transmit something.
Good luck Moz! You have been such a saint to these buns, and I know that Zoe is going to be just fine!
Yes, I know, tomorrow i get my car back from the shop, so I will take her once I have my car. Im a bit more calm since the bleeding stopped im’a go buy some neosporin right now at a pharmacy that is just around the corner from my house. Im also worried for the babes though, will they get sick if i give them kitten replacemnt milk since they were used to Zoe’s milk already?? I feel so stressed now. the good thing is the bunnies are eating a little bit on their own. But they still need milk im not even sure they did have milk today since i just put my hand in there and they run towards it thinking its Zoe. But they are 4 weeks already.
Poor little things. But you’re doing everything you can. Just please keep us posted!
((((((Healing vibes for your girl!!!!))))))
Good luck at the vet!
Get the kitty replacement milk, they should be fine with it.
Good luck at the vet!
She has been nursing for a long time. Nursing hurts after a while. I cracked and bled and it was red and sore. It’s time for some replacement milk for those bunny babes
Poor Zoe. I hope it all works out.
I agree, definately time for milk replacer. Feeding back to back litters would be stressful. She needs a break. If the babes are hungry enough they’ll take the KMR. If they’re starting to eat on their own, they’re coming off the milk anyway. If she has a break she *may* be able to provide the one feed.
I’m guessing Zoes hormones would be out of whack, this might be why the urine smells. Is your vet aware she’s feeding this litter?
Yeah her vet knows, I just tried giving them the kitty replacement milk and none of them want it, they put up a BIG struggle. What should I do? they’ve been eating pellets and hay today. By the way Zoe is doing better the redness has gone down and she’s doing binkys right now in my bed, but has some really bad scabs. =( I just cant wait for tomorrow so i can take her to the vet.
Aw, poor Zoe. She’s been such a trooper and such a good mom through all of this!
How is she doing this morning? I think you said you’d be getting your car today, so if you can get it and get Zoe ready (maybe in her carrier with a soft towel to be comfortable) I would bring her to the vet ASAP. It’s also possible in an emergency to call a cab. And it might be worth checking out Animal Control to ask if they can assist transport of a pet to a vet or animal hospital in case of an emergency. I thought this was the litter you rescued, so those people from the rescue and shelter that helped you take the babies might be able to assist you with a ride or supplies.
I would only be guessing, but I agree that the strain of a second litter is taking its toll, and the babies need to get onto the kitten substitute milk until they can start drinking their water and eating more food. The alfalfa pellets are the good ones for babies, and they might take some soft, mild lettuce now. I would keep cleaning it with warm water and gauze, but I don’t think putting anything, even Neosporin, on it is a good idea until you see the vet and are certain the babies will not be nursing any more. I don’t know what it would do to them. It could be a problem. Just keep Zoe clean and away from the babies for now.
They probably aren’t hungry enough yet to gobble up any kitten milk that is offered, but they will be. If you can run your pinkie inside their mouths gently, just see if anything sharp can be felt, in case one has a bad tooth that caused the wound to Zoe. but I’m sure it’s just the excess strain has set off a problem for her. The vet may need to see the babies as well, so be prepared to take them, too.
Good luck today. {{{{{{{Healing vibes for Zoe}}}}}}}}}}}}}
I think if the babies are eating pellets and water no need to make Zoe nurse any longer. She doesn’t sound like she should be anyway.
Hi guys, took Zoe to the Vet today first thing i did once i got my car. she is fine now she wont be nurisng anymore, her teats where physically strained, and her milk had started to dry up. They had to shave her tummy to examine her better make sure there wasnt anything else wrong and she had a couple of bites, which the vet explained the bunnies did out of frustration when no milk was coming out. And the bunnies are okay too, very healthy, I contacated the rabbit organization today and said they would come give them a check tomorrow, and see what would be best for them at this point. The vet did some blood work and urine culture on zoe so she said she would have those results ready for me tomorrow. I feel so much better now to know she’s okay. one of her teats is really bad bitten needed 2 stitches. She’s being extremely spoiled right now though, =P she is sleeping in the guest bed and getting all her favorite food! she’s a trooper though she wanted to go in the box where the babes were in,lol i think she does it as a habbit and instinct, not sure but i completely restricted her access to them. We’ll see what happends with the babes tomorrow. thanks guys for all your advice, It broke my heart to see her whole tummy full of blood. =(
Thank you for the update and I’m glad Zoe and the babies are doing well. Let us know what the rescue says as well. Continued vibes to Zoe and the babies (and you too).
Zoe did a fantastic job. She went above and beyond the call of motherhood, and those sweet babies wouldn’t have stood a chance without her.
((((((((Zoe!)))))))))
Zoe is such a good bunny! She must have a good bunny parent ; )
Give Zoe a nice nose rub from me. :3
What a good mama! Extra treats from us…and cheek rubs (that’s how we roll in our house).![]()
I am so glad she is doing well!! {{continued vibes}}
WOW Caught this thread late-what a scary thing to have happen! I agree with rabbitpam-if you are fostering for a rescue, the rescue may be able to help transport in a pinch-or a cab can be called. But no matter since you did get her in, and wow-stitches! Yikes-poor momma! Sounds like she’s doing awesome now-and probably relieved to not have any more greedy babies bugginer her
Give Zoe a nose rub from me {{{Zoe}}}}
