I dont know what to do. Minnie is drooling and doing a coughing thing. She was just eating pellets and started doing this. My mom is not here and I cant get ahold of her. What do I do

Ok she stopped doing it and has calmed down. Did she get a pellet stuck in her throat or what. Should I bring her to a vet later when I can?

It’s possible she has dental problems. So if this continues to happen, it would be wise to have a vet check her teeth.

She has never done this before but I will bring her to a vet just to make sure there are no dental problems.

drooling and coughing sounds to me like she was choking. if she is having problems chewing her food, then it could have caused her to choke. i’m glad she’s ok.

I wont be able to get her to a vet until tomorrow morning. Should I not give her any more pellets until after a vet check?

I’m sure she’ll be fine – I would give her pellets but just watch her carefully.

That’s so scary! The best thing to do is to get them calmed down, but that’s hard when you’re freaking out because they’re choking!

Definitely follow up with the vet. There are several potential underlying health problems. One of my current buns (Rosie) has seizures, and if she has one while eating, she’ll choke. The seizures are “partial seizures” and not very noticeable, so when they first started happening, I thought she was just choking every now and then.

One of my previous buns died from a cardiac cardiac problem about a month after a choking incident. We didn’t know she had the cardiac problem until the vet autopsied (which we did because we had no clue why she died). The vet thought the choking incident might have been related somehow to the cardiac problem (??). I didn’t take her to the vet after the choking incident b/c I thought she was simply choking I’m a smarter bun owner now.

i agree with sarita. just keep an eye on her. if she was choking, it could have been a one time thing. if it happens again, then i would take her in to have her checked out.

Shes doing better now but she hasnt been playing much. Shes mostly been laying down. She ate some veggies hay but didnt get excited about fresh hay like she usually does. Is that normal? She usually has a lot of energy.

Sounds like it’s not normal. However, I’m guilty of this and we all are-something happens, you watch SUPER close and EVERYTHING seems out of the ordinary.
Just keep an eye-but the drooling definitely indicates she should be seen by a vet if you can, soon for teeth problems.

I took her to the vet. She said her front teeth and the teeth on one side of her mouth look good but she couldnt see the other side. I didnt want to sedate her since her other teeth looked good and since she is still eating just fine. I will give her fresh hay twice a day since she always eats a ton of hay when its fresh. How can I get her to slow down with eating her pellets? She may of choked because she gets all excited about them and she may of eaten it too quickly.

Have you tried scattering her pellets on the floor? It might help her slow down since she can’t just sit there and gobble them down.
