hi havent been on in ages … i have two 6-8 month old female rabbits who live together get fed together everything  today when i was checking on them one of the females apears very off balance and wasnt interested in any food or hay she was still  drinking water but seems very thin and weak the other female is round and plump and very into everything i cant get to the vets today as im not at home and have a young baby to look after  is their anything i can do to help until tomorrow ???

seperate them and try to feed the bunny seperatly

I would not separate them. The best you can do at this point is just watch her carefully until you can get her to the vet tomorrow.

Continue to give food, hay, and water and try to get her into the vet’s office tomorrow. Has she been fine before this? A bunny wouldn’t suddenly become thin. Have they been to the vet’s before for a check-up a fecal test?

someone said crush the pellets in warm water and feed her by syringe she really doesnt look well and she was the more confident out of the two

You could certainly try to hand feed her by grinding the pellets and mixing with water – I don’t think just crushing them are going to allow them to go through the syringe. I think though she needs a full blown exam at this point too.

i was thinking since their 6-8 months their probably hitting “puberty” and one has become dominant over the food.

never had her checked up got them a few months ago from someone that couldnt care for them they are two very tiny lion heads and i didnt notice she was thin because shes very fluffy it was only when i picked her up i dont understand it thou as her sister is very plump and my two other adopted rbbits are wee fattys too i have her in the liveroom with me with some hay food nd wter but shes not moving

It’s generally not a good idea to force feed in case of a blockage. Altho it doesn’t sound like a blockage from your description. I would just be very, very careful doing that.

OH NO! I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems. I hope everything is ok. I am wondering if it might be coccidia. Have you noticed any runny poops?

You can try feeding pellets that way- just make sure the bunny is in a position to swallow (not on their back like a baby)- they need to be in a normal upright position otherwise it is easy to aspirate liquified food or water into the lungs and this will only add huge complications to what is already going on.

If the bunny is not eating or drinking on its own- I would try to syringe feed or dropper feed some water or pedialyte and some mushy pellets.  Keep offering typical diet to try to encourage eating on their own as that is always best.  Keep with bonded friend unless their is any aggression- then separate.  Spearating might cause undo stress if the other rabbit is providing comfort.

In a weakened state the bunny may find it harder to regulate body temp or get shocky- try to keep the environment at a normal temp for the bunny- but be careful with anything adding heat or coldness as the bunny may not be able to move well enough to get to a more comfortable area if she does not like the cold/heat.  Weakened pets can be burned from heating pads, etc since they are too weak or shocky to crawl off and avoid the heat.  Same could go with a frozen water bottle or tile- if it is too cold they may not get off the tile and it can cause their temperature to drop dangerously low.

This will only provide any supportive care until you can get the bunny into a vet.  There are no meds that can be recommended- only some TLC nursing care.  Get well vibes!!!

yeah today when i was feeding them their was some very runny poo im glad shes still drinkin jst very worrried

i wouldnt take her cleaning herself as a good sign yet animals of prey will try and hide sickness or injury

Still take her in regardless. She may just be fooling you, and its best to find the cause anyway.

Oh, how frightening this is. I’m so sorry. It’s good that she is eating. There is no way to know for sure what is wrong – whether it be that she’s malnourished and weak, or there is another illness that is causing her to be so skinny and/or causing the symptoms. It’s good that she is eating and just be sure she is getting her full share and that she has a warm place to hang out. Do you have any family or friends that would be willing to watch the baby for you or take the bunny to the vet for you in case things take a turn for the worse before you see the vet tomorrow?

In the meantime, I ditto what the others have suggested and keep an eye on her.

havent been on in a while she passed away on the way to the vet and ive been to upset to come on . i took the other 3 to the vets for a check up and they are all fine so ive no idea what happened to sweep we burried her in the garden and got a wee butterfly to sit where shes burried so upset =(

I’m so very sorry to hear about your little one, lilmizzsnickerz, I’m sure you did everything you could. Sometimes it just happens but it’s so hard to accept. You’re a loving bun mom and she was very lucky to have you. I’ll light a candle for her, the butterfly is a beautiful idea,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know you loved her and did everything you could for her and she knows it too. Remember she is happy and well now doing binkies across the bridge!

She is feeling better now at the rainbow bridge. 

Sorry she passed.  And on the way to the vet too.  That must be hard.  She just couldn’t hang in there til you arrived and got her help.  Take it easy on yourself.   You tried your best.  It isnt’ your fault.

I wonder if that plant  in your house is toxic to bunnies?  However if she was real skinny when you got her something had to have been wrong with her health in the first place.  Yes they do hide illness very well and lionheads long hair can hide a lot.
