  I took my old guy to the vet yesterday (he’s 10 this year!) and they mentioned giving him some alfalfa to help maintain his weight because he lost some weight.
  
  My vet is great and super helpful, but I came home and thought about it and now I can’t remember but I’m guessing she meant alfalfa hay or those hay cubes? I looked at some hay cubes and they had preservatives in them, so would alfalfa hay be enough? I’d rather not switch him to alfalfa food pellets because years ago they were giving him mushy poops but if he wouldn’t react that way now that he’s older then I’d try it again.
  
  I can always call my vet but I’m sure I’d have to wait for them to call me back and I’d rather just get him some alfalfa hay if I could.

  I would do the regular alfalfa – the alfalfa cubes hay cubes are really just boredom busters. I imagine she meant regular alfalfa.
