I am super excited about Floppy finally having an appt to be neutered (which is the 20th

not the 21st like I had posted earlier…sorry oops!) but now my nerves are setting in and

I am nervous about my baby getting surgery! Any words that would help calm me would help…

and advice in general!!! I heard it was easier for males to heal… I just dont want to keep him

confined for so long…I heard usually after 2 days male bunnies are feeling better.

        NERVOUS WRECK! AAGGHH!

Hello! I was a wreck the first time I brought a boy in for a spay as well (so much so that I even teared up when the vet took him into the back…) but everything went just fine. When I got back in the afternoon they brought him out and he just looked at me like “hey mom, where have YOU been?.” I know its tough to keep them in a cage for a couple days, but its a very good idea because their little “area” will be very swollen on both sides, and there are also incisions on both sides, and the first couple days they will probably be pretty visible and sore, so you reallllly don’t want y our bunny leaping or jumping and hitting or opening those incisions (because…OUCH!! and because he’d have to go BACK to the vet to get them tended too). Also, because he’s in the cage you’ll be able to keep tabs on him and see if he’s eating, and give him some treats, and be able to get ahold of him and turn him over to check how he’s healing. Also, think about getting him a litterbox that low on one side (I use a carrier bottom) for the first couple days so he doesn’t have to leap over the side and risk hitting the surgery area.

Good luck to Floppy – he will feel much better when he’s healed

well the upside is that neutering is much less invasive than spaying. Most boy buns feel better quickly and I haven’t heard of many complications during neuters. i know it’s scary, but think of all the positive health and behavioral effects the neuter will have, so it’s well worth it.

My bun did so well when he was neutered. As soon as the anesthesia wore off, he was his silly little self again! I didn’t even have trouble with him trying to lick the surgical area or anything and he was eating from right when I picked him up!

So yes, there is much less to worry about with male bunnies. And there is very little risk involved.

oh i was like you. i got my bun neutered not too long ago. they said he did just fine. when he came home he was looking for food! he seemed fine when he came home. but i couldn’t take him out so constantly i was having to sit next to him and pet him. don’t worry too much like i did.
