So I have a few boxes and bags out in the living room for Zeus to play with, but I’m worried because as he chews/shreds them, he appears to be eating some of the bits he chews on.  Will eating cardboard/paper hurt him?

That’s totally normal. As long as he’s not filling up on so much paper/cardboard that his hay intake decreases, it’s fine. Otto loves to pull off a big piece of paper and suck it down like a spaghetti noodle. lol

Hahaha, cute!  Okay, thanks for the reply.  I’ll stop worrying now.

Normal? Yep. I hear Coco and Jackson de-constructing a new box Right now. I call it their “Problem Solving” – Keeps them out if trouble!

Zeus discovered my recycling bin yesterday.  He helps me “break down” the boxes.

Oh yup gosh-totally fine. I mean they shouldn’t eat a whole box in an hour or anything but nibbling is totally fine Also phonebooks are a great treat for them to shred and nibble

I made my small rabbit cage into a litter box, food, water and hay place. The bottom of the cage is wire so I cut a piece of cardboard out to fit it as a floor. Bad idea! LOL My daughter comes in my room in the middle of night and said “Mom, I can’t sleep, Bella is making way too much noise!” LOL Bella had that thing torn out in a matter of minutes!!!

I actually like to use seagrass mattes, willow baskets and toys because they are fun to chew and shred, and are downright good for their digestion, like hay. But nothing beats a fat yellow pages for shredding.

Yep, Monty loves eating cardboard. I give him cardboard toilet paper tubes and stuff them with hay, that way as he chews up the cardboard he gets some hay with it too.. More nutritious that way!
