My Scooter eats his own poop, not just his cecals, his actual poop pellets.  He will poop, hop around a bit, and go back to the pile of poops and eat them all they are pellets or treats.  I am worried.  is this normal?  Do anyone else’s buns do this?

I think its common. Jersey does this from time to time. I rarely see the cecals as she does that in private and has them before they ‘hit the ground’ i guess you could say.

            Welcome to BinkyBunny!

Is your bunny eating them all? I would say it could most likely be related to a diet issue. Is your rabbit provided unlimited hay, and only small quantities of pellets? Could you give us a run-down of what your rabbit’s daily diet is? The key component is the unlimited hay (timothy or oat generally).

                Welcome!!

Can you tell us about his diet (fully) and how many poops he’s eating?

Scooter has fresh unlimited Oxbow Timothy Hay, limited Oxbow Bunny Basics T pellets and fresh greens everyday.  He does have treats as well, papaya tablets and others but in limited quantities.  he does not eat all of his poop pellets, but does enjoy some of them.  The wierd thing is, I find a lot of his cecals, and these are the ones he should be eating, but instead, he’s eating his regular poops.  he acts fine, but does suffer from occasional poopy but.  Also, I can’t seem to get my profile photo to show when I post on a forum.  Anyone know how to fix this?  And of course, any advice/comments about the poop eating would be greatly appreciated too!  One more thing, what kind of flea treatments are safe for buns.  I found a few fleas on one of my cats, and want to treat all the cats and buns in the house.

IMO occasionally eating some regular poops or sometimes leaving some cecals is probably OK and the diet you feed him sounds great!
But how often is the poopy bum? That worries me as I lost my Kokanee to too often poopy bum.

I have a profile pic but my bf loaded it for me so I can’t help you there….hopefully someone can advise soon!!

Do you buy the flea treatment at a vet office? I’d ask a rabbit savy vet about safe fleat treatments, I’ve no idea! Let us know though what you do, there are other members here with cats/dogs and that may be helpful to them too

you have a picture on your profile, but not on your avatar…

let me walk you thru in case you missed something.

in the lime green bar, on the right side it says “my profile”, click on that.

it brings up your profile page, at the bottom on the left it says”Edit Profile/Preferences”, click that.

this is the edit screen.  three red bars that say “Profile” “Preferences” “Avatar”, scroll down to avatar…

if there is a pic showing under avatar, hit “remove” and “update profile” to clear it out and try again.

i upload the avatar directly from my computer by pressing browse and selecting the file, and then pressing “update”.  i have never done the other option, avatar URL.  try saving the pic to your computer and do it that way.

it sometimes takes some time to show up, or you might have to log-out and log back in.

                      hope this helps.

I saw Loppi do it today, for the first time in a year I think. He must be eating the cecals cause I never see them, but I was a bit surprised seeing him eat the regular poop.

I dont have any answears on the poo eating but I will share the flea treatment tip i got from my vet. When I first got Marshmallow my first bun and took him in for hiis neutur I was worried about fleas because the cats outside had them and my little white dog was picking them outside and bringing them in .She told me to use the advantage for kittens the (orange kind) that it was safe for buns but NOT to use frountline or anything else just the baby kitten advantage hope that helps

I was also told by my vet NOT to use Frontline. I can’t remember what she said to use though (fleas aren’t an immediate concern for us….only have the one house rabbit) Good luck!

…..don’t know about the poop, sorry :o)
