I adopted a 2 (?? we’re not sure on age, this was best guestimate!) year old Californian bunny, last year to save her from a neglectful situation. She has been an EXCELLENT (VORACIOUS) eater since I got her, adjusted quickly, etc. She is has unlimited timothy hay since I got her as well as measured pellets and greens (but always always hay).

I took her in mid July to my rabbit savvy vet for a wellness check- teeth look great, belly sounds good. She was a bit on the chunky side (she’s about 8.5 lbs) and so by vet recommendation I started measuring food back slowly to 1/4 cup (she was getting 1/3- 1/2 cup throughout the day)The hay is from my vet’s fields (local, for her own horses) that is fantastic.

Two weeks after the vet visit she stopped eating her hay, and began to have gas/tummy pressing. Brought her to the vet, meds given, she is fine by that evening. She’s back to normal next day, but appears is not eating as much hay. Two weeks after THAT she again stops eating- again take her to the vet and she is back to normal but not as fast, maybe 2-3 days with Reglan, gas drops, etc.

My question is… has anyone experienced anything like this? I am bringing in fresh grasses from the yard, herbs, romaine, etc… which she eats great – but she just is not interested in hay anymore.  She eats everything else fine again but does not seem to care for hay (which she used to be excited if I just rustled the bag)

Hi! I think your case might be similar to another members thread they started. I will link it below. Maybe it can give you some ideas as to why she is doing it. Has she been back to the vet for another exam?

I know my lop will get the tiniest of points and she will go into stasis and she’ll need a dental. Is she molting bad? Any new changes to the environment?

Thanks- I’ll check out that link!

            Yes- everything checks out!

She HAS had a molt line for the past 6 weeks- I brush her daily. Nothing new in the environment- she has a pen she stays in at night but otherwise gets tons of exercise running around the house as well.
