I have some willow trees nearby that aren’t treated or anything, and I occasionally pick up some of the twigs and branches that had fallen off the tree, and sometimes the branches are still soft so I twist them around into different shapes for Louie to chew. I also have a garden and there are patches are long wheatgrass that I pick and make into twists and he loves shredding them apart. I also save my old toilet paper rolls, Louie loves them more than some of the expensive Oxbow toys I buy. My mom is very good at weaving grasses and such so we weave long grasses into mats and twists for Louie to shred. I have a good mix of handmade toys and toys I bought from a pet store. Sometimes I shake up his toys in his treat bags and he goes CRAZY for slightly flavored toys and tosses them and chews them ALL the time. I also bungee cord tissue boxes and such full of hay to his xpen bars and he loves pulling the hay out to munch on it. Having a variety of toys is important and is actually super easy and achievable without spending fortunes on toys from pet stores. I’ve also found that rabbits can love dangly bird toys as well as they often have dangly bits and bells on them.

i just take a tissue box, poke a hole on each side, slide a bungee cord through then full it with hay and attach it to the pen. It makes a little bit of a hay mess when the rabbit pulls the hay out, but its super fun and Louie loves it.

toilet paper rolls stuffed with hay are a fun one. I have a “diggy” box filled with shredded paper, basically a card board box with two holes cut in for entrance and exit, filled with packing paper I just shredded in ribbons. It has some pinecones and what ever other toy he decides to drag in it too. Lately he has decided that he wants to run around with the paper in his mouth like streamers, so it can be messy, but it’s pretty cute to watch him.

sometimes I get pinecones that have fallen and put little pellets inside for Alaska to find. She rolls it around everywhere to get them out. Some bunnies like to chew on them. I soak them in some water for a few hours then put them in the oven for 30 minutes just to make sure its really clean an disinfected.
