Is it normal that my rabbit is keeping his ears down to his back? I haven’t noticed before that he would’ve kept his ears to his back all the time like today. He’s eating, drinking and running around like usual, but it’s Keeping his ears to his back and only putting them up when he for example hears something. I am not noticing any symptons of ear infection. Yesterday they were a bit cold but today his ears were also quite warm. Could he have an ear infection or could he be sick or am I just paranoid?

Yeah its normal, especially when resting,It could mean that they are threatened. My bun does it when she is ready to strike! If he shows any more signs of discomfort, check it out with a vet.

It is not normal to be doing that If he is an upright eared bunny, and not a lop, and his ears are to his back he is either in some sort of discomfort or he could feel in danger of something. If something is physically wrong it might not necessarily be an ear infection. It will put its ears back to show general discomfort.

Has anything changed in the environment or routine lately? I second A&B that it can be a sign of mental and/or physical discomfort. Wick fell into a small period of depression after the holidays because it was one-week straight of being in a new environment and his usual routine was changed, so when we returned back to our home, he felt very insecure and off. He wasn’t hiding and no health behavior changes, but he would always sit with his ears completely back against his back. It took a few days of being back and returning to routine to make him feel better.

When I first got Marble she would do that while she lunged, now that we are friends she doesn’t do it anymore…

Because she felt she was in danger. Bunnies don’t normally chill with their ears all the way back against their back unless they are in discomfort or in an aggressive mode (like Marble was). Straight up eared bunnies when relaxed have them lazily half against their backs, but not consciously right up against them.

When Marble relaxes she does the half back thing
