Is there a way to clean a bun’s ears out?

I just check each ear as I am grooming my bun. It looks nice and clean.

I read in a Netherland Dwarf care book that wrapping a tissue around a finger and putting it in the ear is acceptable to use to clean a bunny’s ear. I don’t like the idea of that

An able rabbit will clean his/her own ears.

Yup, no need to clean a rabbit’s ears if he’s healthy and capable of reaching his ears with his front and back paws.

I agree to leave the ears alone and let the bunny do any cleaning.  A Netherland is so small I do not even think my finger would fit in a Nethie’s ear.  But it is common practice to tell dog and cat owners that they can clean the ears with a tissue over their finger- and to never use Q tips as you can rupture the pets ear drum which is extremely painful and long time to heal.

And I don’t recommend using any type of cleaner unless advised by the vet as moisture can lead to ear infections, and certain cleaners depending on if the rabbit has an ear problem can make the ear hurt or burn.

So ‘it’s it is not broken, do not fix it”.  If the ears are fine I would leave them alone otherwise you could irritate the ear and give the rabbit an excuse to scratch at the ear.
