Well, at the ripe old age of 6 months and one week, Dylan is booked in for his neuter on Wednesday! I haven’t really had much contact with the vets except for jabs, but was very happy when the lady on reception told me to just feed him as normal before the op. I’ve also noticed some scabbyness on one of his ears… I’m hoping it’s not mites, cos it’s gross! But if it is at least we’ll catch it early.
I’ve got a long list of things for the vet to ‘just have a quick look at’! He’s not had his nails clipped yet (I’m hoping that’s the cause of the scabby ear – he’s a lop, so might have caught it on a sharp nail) so going to get them to do that, and ask about anal glands – see if they (or anyone here?) have a suggestion of how to clean them on a bun who’s already about 8lb with a b/f who’s nervy around animals!!
My main question is about how to keep him contained when he gets back. He has his own room, with a cage in that serves as a house with litter box inside and ‘throne’ on top. The cage is only 2ft x 4ft, which is only about twice the size of Dylan! He’d be furious if I shut him in there, and I’m worried that he’ll do himself more harm trying to get out than good being contained to heal…. I can make him a pen out of puppy pen panels that i have, but would have to use two for a roof, so would still only be twice the size of the cage. I’m just not sure how small is too small for recuperation purposes.
I’ll get a photo of the room up twm so you have a better idea, I’ve been meaning to for ages!
