Hi I am new here…I  never had any rabbits before and I do not know anything about them. I come from Malta (Europe). I got this charcoal grey dwarf rabbit…but I do not know how to recognize one…what are the features to look for?

Hi, I’m new too, only had my rabbits since March. I laugh now when I hear someone at the petstore guess  the breed, my dwarf-lop-netherland male cross is turning out to be a really chunky sized English spot with semi log ears female!….lol

Can you post a photo of your bun?

this site has some photos, but I swear that Angora is really a Furby.

          Welcome, Kathy

            Hello Niko001!

Welcome to Binky Bunny! It will help you a lot to read the “BUNNY INFO” on this website to make sure you are giving your bunny the right food and the right kind of housing. How old is your rabbit? If your rabbit is still very young it can be tough to determine the breed of the bunny, or how big it will get. Also, where did you get your rabbit from? Pet stores in general are not too good at determining the breed or size of bunnies when they are very young, so they might have mis-informed you. Almost all rabbits however have great personalities – so no matter what breed you have, it will be a great companion for you!

What is your bunnies name? What are you feeding your bunny? How long have you had your bunny?

Let us know if you have any questions about how to care for your bunny!

I got her (her name is Sami short for Samantha) for my daughter as she adores pets (not counting the birds, dogs and hundreds of fish we have at home). We bought it from a pet store and no information was given about the breed just what food to buy and some handling skills. He said she might be just 3 to 4 months old.

I can see that she is very intelligent and recognizes my daughter’s voice calling her…and time to feed her. She is in a cage big enough to hold a large rabbit but she spends the time running around and playing (or it seems) with my daughter…

Will try to get a picture of her as here is midnight…

              Thanks for the information.

                Hi Niko001,

I got my first rabbit last August.  You will be amazed at how much information you will learn.  The few things I learned at the beginning is to find a vet that is familiar with rabbits.  Also, they need to be fixed as soon as they are old enough.  This will help with the litter training.  I feed my rabbits all Oxbow products.  You also need to be careful of what type of litter to use.  Do not use cat litter.  http://www.3bunnies.org has a lot of information.  they also have a list of what is good to feed a rabbit and what is not.  I hope you enjoy your rabbit as much as we do.  We started with one and now have 3.   My three are a lop; a rex and a dwarf something?  All are rescue rabbits.  My bunny condo picture for the newest bunny is shown under One of the condo questions.  I can’t recall which heading.  It was posted today 8/21.

What type of bedding shall I put? Do I have to provide her with a cove or something similar to sleep in?

Niko – as far as bedding goes, most rabbits do fine on a scrap of carpet. Avoid wood chips like cedar chips, because the dust can cause respiratory problems. When you get your bun a litterbox, the best bedding to fill it with in my opinion is a thick, cottony product called "CareFresh" or "Critter Care". I’m sure you can find and equivalent product at the pet store in Europe. They’re a bit pricier than many of the generic wood chips, but much more absorbent, have better odor control, and are less dusty. Some thick bedding made of recycled newspaper can also be good (it is also packed together in a cotton-like fashion).

Can one identify species for me?

Ahha! you have my foster bunny’s twin! This was my welcoming committee, the 3 kitties. They used the remote to put on a tv show for them all to watch and after a while the bunny hopped out.

NIko how old is your rabbit? I am almost tempted to say that your bun looks like a mixed breed dwarf. Where did you obtain the rabbit from (this may help to identify the breed)? Is your bunny male or female?

Welcome Niko!!!  Your bunny is so cute. I am not sure of the breed.  But it looks like it could be a big breed as she looks pretty big for 7 weeks. Unless they didn’t give you the correct age.

What did the pet store tell you about diet requirements?  I know they don’t always give accurate information in that subject either?

A good thing to keep in mind is once she or he reaches 12 weeks, you may see some behavioral changes that can make many new bunny owners think their bunny has gone crazy or turned mean (really depends on the bunny)   Many times spaying and neutering can take care of many of the behavior "challenges"

Check out the links section of this site – there are great resources like the House Rabbit Society and others that can help with your continued education, and of course we are here to help with any questions you have.  There are never too many questions so ask away – that’s what we’re here for.

                                    Again – WELCOME!!!

She looks very much like my Jessica, netherland dwarf.  She has that same white/grey undercoat and white eyeliner eyes.  She’s super cute!  This website has been my 2nd home.  I’m sure you’ll find it very helpfull
