i’ve seen a few posts about these dry flaky ears. i just noticed fredrick has them too. hair is coming out along with skin flakes, but i don’t think it’s mites. there’s no sign of mites (i.e. no mite poop, dried blood, or the mites the themselves) and so i started to kind of groom his ears to get some of the skin off, and hair started coming out. he’s finally over a molt (a weird one might i add, it wasn’t full, but also really prolonged) so i think it’s that.

i haven’t noticed any excessive scratching, only when i was done touching his ears he did scratch them, most likely because i had just messed with them.

any idea what it could be?? i don’t think it’s mites and really don’t want to take a vet trip because they’re so expensive. the peeling is only on the outside of his ear where his hair grows and there’s no peeling anywhere else on his body or the inside of his ear.

also what could i do to help him? thank you

It could be either just dry skin or mites. Or something else like a fungal infection. The only way to know for sure is to have a vet look under a scope. Mites are very tiny and hard to see with the naked eye.
