My bun has very mild dryness on his ears. It’s barely noticeable, I was wondering what I could put on the ears when they get too dry?

It’s not red, inflamed, or scabby, and he doesn’t have mites. He has very clean ears. But when I look up close I notice it on the inside edge of his ears.

I haven’t heard of rabbits who develop dry ears without it being paired with another condition, such as excessive scratching from mites or a skin infection. If it’s just mild, it shouldn’t be something you need to remedy. If it becomes more moderate or severe, I recommend going to your rabbit vet and seeing if there is a cause.

There are moisturizers that are rabbit-safe. I am not familiar with them off hand, but I’m sure other BB members will be able to chime in!

I think forum leader LPT has experience with dry ears on buns. My Bam had dry ears when he had a respiratory infection. (He can also get a little bit of flakiness when he’s shedding his ear fur). My vet told me to not put anything on and it went away with his oral antibiotics treatment.

You can use a tiny bit of Vaseline on the ears. If it gets worse or crusts start forming, it could be mites.

My Olivia used to get dry, sort of scaly flakes on her ears. I could only see it really up close but it could be easily brushed off. My vet checked and she was negative for mites. I used to take a super soft baby brush and gently brush off the dry flakes and put a tiny dab of mineral oil on a Q-tip and gently massage it in.

Siobhan gets dry skin on her ears if it’s really dry in the house. I noticed a difference when we got a humidifier. I gently brush the flakes off and put a tiny dab of Vaseline on her ears and gently rub it in. I’ve also heard that a lot of ppl use bag balm because sometimes Vaseline can dry the skin more. I never had an issue though.
