Over the hay bowl!  I put his hay in a tupperware bowl.  It’s not the best solution for it but it’s what I had and I like to keep some hay out of the litter box so that they always have fresh hay.  This morning Mike and I did a major bunny condo cleaning, we took everything out, swept AND vacuumed every nook and cranny and then put in fresh litter boxes.  I put in Drue’s hay bowl and he went back up to his condo after exploring the vacuum for a bit and he tipped over his hay bowl..when he wasn’t even going to eat any, just to do it.  So I went in there and I picked it up and told him that he was a silly bunny and that I just cleaned his carpet and he really didn’t need to be spilling hay all over it.  He got back up and tipped it again this time fighting with the bowl a bit before tipping it.  So I picked it up and told him he was silly again.  He then presented himself for grooming.  He normally tolerates pets but doesn’t ask for them.  So, of course I obliged.  Well when I was done I went to leave and he tipped it over again and again presented for grooms!  I groomed him again and he melted into a bunny puddle and actually let me pet him while he was flopped!!  I was so excited!  So I just left again and now he dumped his hay again..and then did periscope bunny to see if I was watching.  LOL So what is he trying to accomplish?  I’m not sure if he’s doing it to show that he is boss and his hay will be all over the place if that’s how he wants it or if he thinks it’s a trick and that he’s doing good since when he does it I usually go back and fix it and then give him pets.   He’s now lounging in there again very happily I might add with his knocked over hay bowl laying right next to him.  I hope he feels accomplished now..because I will be going out and buying a clip to attach that bowl to the side of the cage..he makes SUCH a mess when he dumps it!

Yup, that’s it. It’s like a child crying. He knows that you’ll pay attention to him if he tips over the hay bowl.

aww…. that fact that he asked for pets when he usually doesn’t made me grin.  I always joke around that I would buy my bunny whatever when she gives me kisses.  Maybe Drue is starting to determine how HE wants his condo.

I think that is what it is katnipcrazy, he’s finally deciding to make his home HIS home and before was treating it as just like a temporary hangout or something.  He’s also decided today that he has no use for a litter box on his main floor.  He tipped that over and made a HUGE mess and when I was trying to pick it all up he did it again.  He very rarely ever went in that one and prefers the bottom floor litter box, so out it went.  And his hay he prefers to just be in a big pile on his floor I’ve seen.  I was a bit weary of that since I figured he’d think of it as a litter box and pee and poop all over it but he seems to realize that that’s just a hay spot and that the litter spot is somewhere else.  I put it inside the bowl and just had the bowl on it’s side and so he kind of digs some out as he goes.  Hopefully that will make it seem more like a hay trough and less like a litter box too.

I love Drue, he’s so funny! I’m happy he’s starting to settle in properly

Layla likes to tip over the water bowls when they’re empty or almost empty to tell me that they need refilling so buns ae pretty clever that way.

I don’t know what it is about bowls but mine love to tip them over too. I have water crocks that screw to the side of the cage, and if Raymond sees me putting in the full bowl of water and preparing to screw it back to the ex-pen, he will grab it with his teeth and immediately try to tip it over.

Have you tried a hay rack before? It might work better for you that the bowl, because it will also keep him from being able to dig around in the bowl.
