Toby has been here a little over a week. I noticed he has been dropping some cecals. I cut back on the pellets (which is hard. How do you cut back on HIS pellets and allow Tillie as much as she wants as she is still a baby) and he is still dropping them. Could this be a sign he is sick?

If it’s a formed cecal (not a mushy mess) then it’s probably fine and he’s not sick. He’s likely adjusting to new things in the diet. Is he on different pellets to what he had before? Or different hay, getting some new treats? etc It can take a while to get the balance right and you’re only just getting to know him. My adult male still drops them sometimes and it’s usually after I’ve given apple or carrot a couple nights in a row.

I am not sure what is diet was before. He was with some photographers before I got him (who used him as a live prop, but I was told he seemed to love it). I sent the rescue an email to find out what he was being fed. When I first gave him greens he looked at them and snubbed his nose. Now he will absolutely run me over when it is veggie time. He is now being fed Oxbow pellets and he gets the occasional raisin or craisin and of course, timothy hay. Still won’t touch Tillie’s favorite, which are barley biscuits. And no, it is not mushy… looks like a bunch of tiny grapes clumped together. Thanks, Jerseygirl!
