This is mostly a venting post
I’m pretty sure that this is mostly hormones, but Amelia is driving me crazy! On Friday she chewed a hole in the lining of the couch and then got stuck in the couch. So logically I blocked off all access to the couch after I repaired the hole. Well this made her angry. She was diggin at the towels I had rolled up to block her from going under the couch. She then figured out how to get on the dinning room table. She’s jumping from the floor up there. I think she thinks my orchids up there should be a salad bar. I placed boxes around the edge to raise the surface another 12 inches, and she is still making the jump.
I’m trying to correct the behavior it she doesn’t care about being told no, I’ll put her down and she will literally jump right back up. Right now as soon as she starts to periscope to size up the jump I’m shaking a jar with coins and it’s stopping her. I’ve tried putting her in her cage for a “time out” and she is chewing and digging at the bars so bad I’m worried she is going to hurt herself. I’ve tried covering the cage so she can’t see me but that’s not calming her at all.
I have no idea what she could want right now. She isn’t playing with any of her many toys. She has barely nibbled on her breakfast, all she is doing is throwing her hay every where. The only thing that remotely calms her is sitting and grooming me. * as soon as I typed this she is now eating her breakfast.
Her spay appointment is tomorrow morning provided we don’t end up snowed in. We are getting our first real snow here in metro Detroit.
Does this sound like hormones? Is he just testing the rules like a puppy would? Am I missing something that I should be doing?
Sounds like a young bunny being a young bunny! Hormones can really add to the destructiveness. They are just little balls of crazy.
Wishing your bun a ((((Safe Procedure and Speedy Recovery)))).
We’re in for a big snowstorm tomorrow here in New Brunswick too. Stay safe!
Thanks puffy tail!
You be safe too, I’ve been out to clear the side walk and driveway three times today and it supposed to snow till about 4am ? It’s weather like this that really makes me wonder about the triple lot that we have, so much sidewalk and a long double driveway.
Yeah it’s young/teenager bunny and she is so much more social, and so very bonded to me, that she knows how to get on my last nerve. She was an absolute nut until about noon, and then suddenly my old bunny was back.
I hope everything goes well!
I have two male buns that are getting neutered this week. One on Tuesday, and one on Thursday. They were dumped at a pet store, and I got them last month. I love them already, but man is some of their behavior crazy!!! I also have one that jumps over everything, and chews on his gate because he wants in the living room. The other is incredibly sweet and cuddly, but has sprayed me I don’t know how many times. I’m truly hoping that the neutering stops some of these behaviors. I wanted them both to be free-roaming buns, but with them spraying and leaving territorial pellets everywhere, I have currently confined them to my dining room.
I’m in Iowa, so we are also experiencing heavy snow, but I’m going to do my best to get it done no matter what the weather.
Luckily the roads were pretty good this morning. I gave myself plenty of time to get there.
Anyways she’s there now and I’m just keeping myself distracted till I can call them at 3

. Shoveling a triple lot? – I would’ve died! I feel your pain though (I live in the downriver area and almost passed out after shoveling twice lol).

Have you heard anything about Amelia yet?
Hope everything went well!
I was able to pick her up at about 4pm our time, and we have been home for about 2 hours now
She is doing really well, she’s sleepy and pretty drugged up on pain mess, but she was eating at the vets office an hour before I picked her up. She’s been munching on some alfalfa hay since we got home, she’s been trying to drink from the water bowl and if rather confused. She has even poo’d a tiny bit. But not enough I feel confident yet.
I’m keeping her confined in her cage for a few more hours, possibly the rest of the night before she gets xpen access. But she is happy and been giving me kisses
Really glad she is eating, that’s great. Buttercup barely ate the day we bought her home til early hours in the morning. I’m envious you got kisses, I got the bunny butt and stink eye lol!
As emphasised in another post, i would keep her confined for another couple of days (or only on to your knee for cuddle time)
Her stitches are brand new and need time to start healing. I wouldn’t give her free xpen access just yet. Not for a week….
She’ll give her her cute eyes to say let me out, but you must resist and say to yourself its for her own good…. ![]()
Sarah, my vet decided she isn’t really bunny, based on her personality the staff decided she is puppy! Honestly I’d share bunny kisses if I could, she is so kissy, and kisses everyone!
Vienna, she is staying in her cage, I just worry cause it’s on the small side, she has plenty of space for everything in there and still has room to flop. I will be getting her a larger cage but I haven’t been in a rush since she only sleeps in this cage and has free run 14+ hours a day. At this point she hasn’t even asked to come out, she doesn’t seem to mind it’s me who minds

Well, whatever species she is, she sounds lovely ![]()

I wouldn’t worry about getting a bigger cage (unless it’s for after she’s recovered too)…
She’s just undergone a human version of a hysterectomy so she won’t be wanting to go hula hooping just yet… .lol.
Sarah she really is a sweet girl. Kinda nutty, but I lover her so very much.
Vienna I will be getting her a larger cage in the future, and only using this one when we travel, or if she goes and stays at grandmas house. Her fully enclosed playpen came in the mail today, later this week she will get time in there so she can stretch and wander but no running and no binkies.
Right now she is so desperate to spend time with us, chewing on the door when ever she sees us, then falling asleep. She got a bit of lap time with me and lots of time with me sitting with a hand in her cage while she kissed me and cuddled
Awwwwwww so cute…. ![]()
Wait, JUMPING ONTO THE TABLE? That’s crazy! Maybe you should look into Rabbit Agility contests because that’s impressive =P I hope her recovery goes fast and smoothly
Yep all the way onto the table, id put her down and she would jump right back up.
Her recovery is going well. I ordered her a fully enclosed playpen, since she jumps and climbs the x pen. She has been very content to spend her days in there rather then her cage. It lets her wander a bit, but no real running, and she can only do tiny binkies. Her vet said no binkies for 10 days, I just laughed cause she is made of happiness and joy
