Just wondering what you all think: In August my best friend from home is getting married and i am the maid of honor. This means that my boyfriend and I will be going to Iowa anywhere from 4 days to 7 days. Ususally when we are gone a good friend comes over twice a day to let Boston out , feed, water, meds, etc. But I can’t ask someone to come over twice a day for 7 days (plus she might be traveling for a new job at that time).

So we are thinking about bring Boston to my BF’s parents house where his adult brother has agreed to take care of her. We will set up the play pen around the cage in the basement where we don’t have to worry about carpet chewing (the carpet is old). The problem is, they have a dog. A cute like pekingnese. I’m so so so nervous that the dog is going to ‘scare her to death’. I’ve read that many times. My BF’s mom made the point that the dog is very sweet and doesn’t get worked up easy, but I’m just scared that the dog will find a way to Boston and hurt her! We are going to take Boston over there today just to see how they interact with eachother.

Do you guys think if they interact well it would be ok for the brother to babysit for a week? I know moving her is stressfull enough, but we don’t have a lot of options.

i think Boston needs to be the flower girl! or parsley girl…

i think she should be fine for a week. can they keep teh dog out of th basement just in case? i think it’s easier to separate them…

I agree that its best to separate them but there is no door to the basement and the dog follows my BF’s brother everywhere he goes, so that would be hard. There is a laundry room with a door, but I don’t want to put her in a dark room with no interaction for a week!

Haha, thats funny about the flower girl cuz my BF and I were talking marriage the other day and Boston as the flower girl came up as an option!!! It would be cute, a little ring of flowers around her body and my BF at the end of the aise holding a carrot to get her to run up front….haha! That would be great!

i doubt you’d be able to get her down the aisle in a straight line. she’d have to stop and nibble some shoes and purses on the way!

Well if your bf’s brother is willing to watch Boston for a week, do you think he will be willinig to go to your house to do so? That way boston does not have to be around a strange dog she does not know and you avoid the stress of being in a new environment. I actually am going away this weekend and have a co-worker who was willing to take my Coco to her house. I thought about it for a while and I can’t take Coco (wish I could). I have finally decided to leave Coco at home where he is most comfortable and create a bio/schedule about him and his needs, so my co-worker could just come over and care for him. I had another bun before and when I went away a friend came over everyday to feed him and let him out for a litttle and everything worked out just fine.

Well we took Boston to the brother’s house for a ‘play date.’ Teddy, the dog, LOVES Boston. We put her in the play pen and Teddy just ran around sniffing and whining. Boston went up to the gate and they sniffed each other. We then put Teddy in the play pen (With my BF holding onto him and his collar) and Boston lowered her head to be groomed while Teddy sniffed her some more. He never tried to hurt her, just followed her around the pen and sniffed, then layed there and looked at her. Boston didn’t seem scared at all. If Teddy was laying, she would lay in front of him so they could sniff, and look at each other! Wow, I was amazed!

Sometimes this works out. There was a pekenise (sp) at an outreach program we had in SF and that dog did nothing but bark at the rabbits. I would say you should still have Boston in an x-pen seperating the two if there’s no one supervising but it sounds like it will be fine.

It is possible that Boston thinks that Teddy is another bun. They are more fur than dog afterall.

How did they keep a straight face doing this :~)

I think w/ rabbits if they are in a secure place they will be respond much differently than if they were outside in a cage and a strange dog wandered up to them and scared them.

It sounds like they will be fine. Boston has a new friend! One thing you may need to consider is at least putting Boston in a closed in bedroom at night to be safe just in case the dog decides to nip (or Boston decides to nip) thru the pen.

One of my myspace friends had wedding photos done w/ her buns. I never even thought about it and regret I didnt do it.

hmm, well if Boston is not spooked by the doggy and the dog isn’t trying to chase or such, it likely will be just fine. It might be wise to only let Boston out when the doggie is locked in another room or when a baby gate is up. Dogs can be just playing and injure a bun’s thin skin.

                                  Haha cute video!!!

At night, or when no one is around, Boston would be in her cage against the wall, about 5 feet from where the dog could reach from. I think it will be ok too….Teddy is shaved right now and Boston is almost as big as him!

awww… so sweet!   my buns both absolutely adore my dog.  and my dog (7yr old mutt) is ultra gentle with them but i still can’t leave them together unattended.  if the dog gets too excited he’ll forget himself & trample over the buns so i have to be wary of people coming to the door / the mail carrier / newspaper boy…  i think as long as they realize the pup & bun can’t be left unsupervised it’ll be a perfect bun-sitting set up!

that wedding video… hahahahahaha!!! i can see my future wedding being just like that
