so after lots of persuading my mom agreed that i could get a dog crate instead of some small rabbit cage. she said that no matter what i could never build a nic cage while im still living with her.

so a dog crate would be my best bet. here are the measurements: 48″L, 30″W, and 33″H. is that okay? it isnt long enough i know, but it will only be used for sleeping, and when im at school, or out at some place (which would be very rarely cause i dont go out that often. and if i do its never for long) and i cant use an xpen because my room is already small as it is and an xpen would be kind of awkward looking in my small room.

Totally. When I was researching for bunny info, I decided on an XL dog kennel. It had a second story- ramp and everything. It worked out incredibly great. Now, my girl doesn’t use it (I am keeping the kennel for a second bunny in the future) and is fully free range.

As long as your bunny can stand up on its hind legs all the way

Why is your mom against you building a NIC cube cage. I actually had a dog crate for my rescue bun sunshine who is 6 lbs. I bought it only to be used for temp housing because I was going to bond her with my male bunny kamdyn. Long story short the bonding didn’t work. For my bunny since she is a medium size rabbit. It just wasn’t working she didn’t have enough space to move around. I switched her to a exercise pen which worked for awhile until she kept chewing the floor mat of the pen. So 2 weeks ago I built her a cage out of NIC Cubes since my other bun has a cage built with that. I absolutely love it. I am not up at night anymore and sunshine also loves it. This is my opinion on them and the NIC Cube cage was alot cheaper then what I paid for the dog crate. It depends what will work for you.

Between a regular plastic bottom cage and a dog crate, the dog crate is the clear winner in my opinion. Get the largest size you can, and I would definitely try to put a shelf or ledge in to create a second level. Along with plenty of out of cage exercise time, that habitat should be fine. I know you’re very limited on your options.

Since you have the NIC grids, its not a total loss! You can prop those up along the walls and around your bed to bunny proof your room for play time (I think it’s you that has the grids already?)

my mom is totally against the idea of me making a nic cage -_-. i have NO idea why, her only excuse is that it looks messy and its hard to move around -_-… oh well… im hoping that i can upgrade to a nic cage soon. but for now a dog crate might work. and i do want to build a second shelf in the dog crate! but i have NO idea how to. i’ll just have to figure that out somehow ha.
and ah i DID have the grids, i even made an “outline” of the cage with the grids and zip ties but my mom made me take it apart (which was time consuming… taking apart alllll of those zipties) and then we returned the grids the next day /: but i’ll definitely figure something out soon so he can have more room!

A dog crate for you situation will work. I am not sure on what breed of rabbit you had. I know leithpetwerks use to sell a 2nd level for teh dog crate. Mine was an extra large dog crate and for my big bunny it didn’t work. For other buns it is a keeper. I did like how it was colapsable and I could move it around. I am glad you are very concerned about your bunnies well being and you want your bunny to have more room to run. You can also ask around to people who might have a large dog crate they are getting rid of or is willing to sell at a cheaper price. I know my dog crate was $80. So check to see if someone maybe you know is selling one. I hope you post pictures of your buns cage I can’t wait to see them.

I’ve always wanted to use one of those fabric dog crates as a rabbit pen.
Someone discoraged me from it, but i’m slowly beginning to believe she won’t chew it.
