My male bun, Alfie was neutered a year ago and I noticed this today next to his genitals. On the other side there was a black blob looked like poo stuck in the crack next to his genitals. It looks infected to me but I’m not sure. Anyone know what I should do?

          Hi Kayso

This looks like his anal scent glands. They can get some build up of a waxy, smelly substance here. Some rabbits never get much and others will get build up and need help cleaning it out. Rabbit Info tab at top of page has section on monthly maintanence that instructs how to go about this. It’s not something that should need to be done monthly, just something to check regularly to see if there is a big build up.  This is also a helpful video.

I personally use a bit of mineral oil on a q-tip when I clean their scent glands. I find the mineral oil helps detatch the stuff from their sensitive skin down there. I try to wear latex gloves also, if I have them. The gland stuff leaves a smell!

I agree! His scent glands look like they are clogged. JG provided good advice above.
