This may soiund like a dumb question, but I’ve not cut my grass for a couple of months (lazy I know!) And now there is an 8ft square patch of lush green grss outside my house. I know it’s essentially fresh hay, so is it a nutritious as, say, romaine? Can I feed it to Dylan by the handful??!

I have actually wondered this as well- My friend Adam feeds his bunny fresh grass frequently as a replacement for other veggies. I don’t really trust his opinion since I don’t always approve of how he treats Jingles. She is caged far too often for my standards Plus he won’t get her spayed, no matter how hard I push…she doesn’t really have any behavioral problems but just because the cancer risk is so high, not to mention, his excuse for caging her so often is her potty habits which would improve after spaying…anyways. Sidetracked. I have wondered if this an appropriate substitute veggie or is it just an extra?

I am leary of any grass grown in a typical yard- has the yard been treated with chemical or pesticides?  do your neighbors treat their yard with chemicals- these things can get into the ground water, etc.  Fresh grass is not a subsitution for hay and should be gradually introduced as you would a new veggie.  Lawn grass is different than “farm/hay grass” and only one of my bunnies will eat or nibble at it- the other 2 regard it as barely worthy of touching their paws.

I’d probably just keep doing the regular veggies that he’s used to…

AND CUT YOUR GRASS ALREADY!!! LOL!!!

Yes- it has to be chemical free-also wash it as you would other veggies. Many people give grass from their yard. Mine don’t like it-I brought some in with dandelions this summer, and they just rejected it but it’s worth a go. Again, doesn’t replace veggies or hay but you can certainly feed it

i have heard in certain books that if bunnies get grass they dont need veggies—–but i dont stand for it. i dont think it has the nutritional value of veggies. also you risk giving them bugs and chemicals!

Mine enjoy grass now n then I feed it to them

However after watching oh I forget the name of it .  It is about rare things like parasites being in people and coons carry that stuff and I get all anxious about it and stopped feeding grass.  Silly I know cuz this is such a rare thing that parasites get into people and eat holes in our brains.

ohhhh horses can get a thing called EPM. not sure what the letters stand for though. its when they eat hay thats been peed on by a raccoon. they get the parasites in their brain from this.  it usually kills um. if it doesnt they kinda become stupids. alll stupid and stuuf.

If you have a type of grass that is adequate for rabbits, you can wash it and dry it and gradually get your rabbits used to it. It is apparently very good for their teeth wear-down to eat fresh grass.

OH goodie   I just went and got mine some.   I have a lettuce crisper and wash it in there.

Yeah those are the parasites I was talking about.  When they get into birds the birds flop all over and go weird then die.  Sounds like the same ones in horses too.

the show is called MOnsters among us  or monsters in us or something

It is possible.  There are blocks on some words that people (myself included) may find offensive or derogatory when used in the wrong way.

^^ LOL I must be really PG13 or G rated-I’ve never had it change a word!!

EPM stands for Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (A protozoan is a single celled animal-think of it as a parasite and Myeloencephalitis-inflamation of the brain and spinal cord)
It’s treatable with antiprotazoals. Luckily it doesn’t look like it affects rabbits at all http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcocystis
