Dodger is still being a bad boy help me please

The first few days no accidents outside the cage now every time he comes out he pisses on something or someone …. He has major attitude problems and he gets mad at me for movin his poop into the litter box … He’s so cute but I have a daycare and he’s causing a lot of stress and extra clean up

Is Dodger neutered? Have you brought any new smells into the house he feels that he needs to mark?

Peeing outside his litter box is not indicative of anger. What behaviors are making you think he’s mad at you? What makes you think he has attitude problems?

For litter training, confine him to his pen until his habits improve. You have to start small as too much freedom/space too soon can invite litter habit issues. He will pick his favorite spot to go to the bathroom and that’s where his litter box should go. Some rabbits need multiple litter boxes during training. Put some hay in the litter boxes/generally make them a pleasant place to be. It’s okay if he hangs out in there and spending time in his box will encourage good litter habits. Soak up any accidents with a paper towel and place them and any stray poo in the box. This also encourages good habits. Clean up any accidents ASAP with vinegar, baking soda, or some other animal safe cleaner. Any residual smell of urine will cause him to keep having an accident in the same spot.

You can find very detailed info about litter box training on the web sites that Sarita and I linked on your other post. So I would give them a read if you haven’t.

He’s only been with you 2-3 days so be consistent and give him time. He’s still adjusting to his surroundings and this is normal for a new bunny. If you want to double check to see if he’s neutered just look and see if he has testicles. If he has them he’s still intact.

The pet store says he was neutered and charged me 200 for just the bunny but he seems to be displaying signs of not being neutered maybe …..ive read everything 5 times over I have the national geographic book on house rabbits and care I have another book on house rabbits and also the official house rabbit society book I’ve been around and researched rabbits for years he is not making much sense to me he wants constant attention but insists on peeing he never poops out of his pen and he is only let out into a small area to roam when he is peeing and he could easily go back to his littler box

Well how recently was he neutered? It might just be some residual hormones rearing their head or it might just be typical teenage bunny brattiness. Either way they will pass with time.

Litter training takes time, patience and consistency. You just brought Dodge home a few days ago so I’m afraid it is a stretch to expect him to have mastered litter training just yet. Over night his whole world changed – new people, new house, new smells, ect. It’s a lot to take in and sadly it’s totally normal for bunnies (neutered or not) to mark their new territory. Give him time to adjust. Be diligent and consistent about cleaning up after him and I’m sure litter training will fall into place once things settle down for him.

He came from a pet store and they neutered him? Or was it a shelter? I’m only asking because I don’t think any of the pet stores around here have their rabbits fixed prior to sale. Did you look down there to see if he’s got some jewels? They are set forward and appear as fat pink mounds under the fur.

As for all the research you did and all the books you read – your bunny never read ANY of them, so don’t expect anything to be ” typical”. Each bunny is an individual and learns things in their own time, in their own way. Some bunnies train in a week, some take months and some up to a year! Is this bunny part of your daycare? Are there lots of little ones around? That can stress him. Whenever I get a new bun, I leave them in their cages with a litterbox for the first several days so they get used to. “Their potty “. Then I let them out into a small area for 30 minutes or so, then back in to potty. Extending the time out of cage for a longer time each day as long as they are successful in not peeing. (If they pee outside, scoop him up instantly and put him into his litter box). All of this should happen in a calm, quiet environment – not a daycare full of kids. Have patience – it’s very much like potty training a toddler.

Everybun, even fixed buns, has different litter skills even if they are fully litter trained. Some buns are just going to be great at it while others are not. Some also use it as a way for communication.
