I am hoping to re-bond my boys after they are neutered and am wondering if there is any chance I might be able to have them share a litter box and food/water bowls (just to save space and give them more room to play).  When they started fighting, Smokey seemed to have claimed the side of the cage with the litter box and food bowl so I think it was a territorial thing.  I know all rabbits are different, but I’d like to know if any other bonded pairs share.

Well ideally they really should. I’ve always had mine share but you are right about the litter box being territorial.

My buns had two litter boxes, one had hay suspended over it, the other was just the wood pellets. But they both used each box with no problems. They also shared food and water bowls.

If one is getting territorial over the box, you might need a second one. How big is their cage?

We are building a hutch for them to move into after they are neutered and hopefully rebonded that is 8′ x 2′.  If they can get along they’ll have the full space to share, but just incase we aren’t able to rebond them, we have planned to make a partition in the middle of the hutch so they are separated.  We already expaned the hutch once in the process of building it after we saw the fighting and realized they might never get along.  I just want them to have as much space as possible because they are so happy in their exercise pens when they have more room to hop around.

My bonded boys share a food bowl…but I have two litter boxes in their room. Not because they’re territorial over the box, but because they were pooping outside the box, so now I have 2 right next to each other – and this way – they can both use the litter box/eat hay at the same time.

Bu the boys share a food bowl and water bowl….which doesn’t seem to be an issue.  It’s a large bowl, so they can both eat on different ends of the bowl.

They do have 2 treat bowls – because they are a little more aggressive over treats 🙂  Lots of head nudging going on – so we gave them each a bowl.

My two share the same litterbox and same food bowl. If one is in the box, the other still jumps in and they use it side by side together because I got a box that is just big enough for them to both get in at the same time and eat hay if they both needed to go at the same time. I don’t know if it makes a difference but mine are a male and female pair.

My two both use all their litter boxes, but they won’t use them at the same time, so if one is in the litter box and the other wants to use it they have to use a different one. If Stickers is in a litter box and Powder comes up to it, she leaves. If she doesn’t, he pins her down and humps her. So, yeah you may need two.

When I had first bonded my two rabbits, one boy (Shiro) and one girl (Daisy), we had a food bowl for each, two water bowls, and two litter boxes. The food and water they almost instantly started sharing, the litter box was a little more difficult because my they both wanted to use same one, but Shiro wasn’t into sharing (not aggressive but would jump in the way as if to claim it), so Daisy would pee and poop right outside the box. I moved her fecal matter into the box for a few days and then (after realizing he was going to share if he wanted to or not) Shiro started to accept her using the bathroom there. It’s been a year and the two are often in it in the same time and have no problems.
