Ok, at least one of my rabbits (I have only caught one of them doing it, but the other may be more sneaky) is a really big eater. Like, he eats anything he can get his mouth on. I have been trying to coat things that are not supposed to be eaten (like their litter box) in perfume so that they can not eat the plastic. I know that they are eating it because they are not dropping the plastic pieces, so I know this is bad for them.

But I was wondering if this is something that a rabbit grows out of (they are five month old boys, and have been fixed, so I know it isn’t hormones) like a puppy or if I need to find a more permanent solution to the eating problem. I know puppies will eat everything when they are little but grow out of it. Do rabbits grow out of it?

Yes and No; puppies chew because they are getting their adult teeth, nothing like this happens with rabbits, their teeth continually grow and they do not (As far as I know!) have baby and adult teeth But yes younger rabbits are just plain more active-chewing, digging, hopping, running you name it-You’ll likely see some settling down around one year and more in a few years.

Some rabbits are not big chewers, and others are. Some do grow out of it as the hormones settle and they generally become less active, but some will always chew on things they shouldn’t. Puppies generally chew because they are teething, which is temporary, but bunnies don’t have that issue and as K&K said, their teeth are always growing so chewing is a necessity.

Thanks for the advice! So, my new question is, how do I stop it? I know that bunnies need to chew, and I have given them tons of toys to chew on and they get plenty of hay. But they have been eating a lot of stuff, even when I put perfume on it. They have eaten a lot of cardboard and a lot of plastic from their litter box. I got rid of all the cardboard in their cage, but I haven’t gotten rid of the plastic things because it is stuff like their food dish and their litterbox, which they need. I also think that they are eating their litter, which is also not good for them. I don’t know how to stop this from happening, because they seem to have adjusted to the taste of perfume on their items…
I wish I could explain to them that plastic is really bad for them to eat and that they should just eat their hay and pellets and lettuce…
