        Hey

Just did my window flower bed yesterday. It was in bad condition from last year, completely dried out and the old flowers had to go. I planted way less then last year since they weren’t looking too good but we’ll see how it goes; I got two kinds of Oregano, one Parsley and one Marigold. Hopefully I have some bunny food soon!!

Anyone else planting a bunny garden this year?

I have planted all kinds of stuff for my guys.  The herb garden that I planted last year mostly survived the winter and is going great guns now.  I harvest a few sprigs each day as treats – chamomille, a couple of kinds of oregano, a couple of different sages, lemon balm.  The basil did not survive the winter, so I replanted and that lasted about 2 weeks.  I think the molluscs got it.  The mint overwintered in my pots too, so it is coming back as well.  The kids took all of our half empty seed packs and planted a bed just for the buns – carrots, a couple of kinds of radishes, a couple of kinds of lettuce, cilantro and parsley.  Not sure what will come up, but it is fun to watch anyway.  I love gardening for the rabbits because when things happen like radishes bolting to seed without forming a root, you just feed the leaves and flowers to the buns, they don’t care that the root did not form.

Roses are good for bunnies, stems, blossoms and leaves, as long as no pesticides were used on them!  Flowers are not a crop grown for people, so they are often sprayed with nasty stuff or given systemic pesticides to keep them looking good.  Please be sure that you know everything that has been sprayed on your rose bushes before offering them to your buns.

Bunnies can eat strawberries, both leaves and fruit.  I often give mine the little green stem and leaf on the top of the berry.

Luckily, we have lots of hayseed and wild strawberries, etc. growing naturally in our yard, pesticide-free. But for some reason this year, it just isn’t lighting them up when I feed it to them. If anything, I think they prefer the store bought yummies.
Poor things. They are stuck with a mum with the consummate PURPLE THUMB. I can only make mold grow, I’m afraid. Plus the weather this year has been crummy, I just didn’t get started in time either.
I envy all you who live in your gardens and have longer than a two month growing season. Winter is lasting longer and arriving earlier up here. Despite the 24 hr daylight, summer’s a short time for us.
