I think I have gotten in a rut! I have been feeding the buns the same veggies everyday. How often should I change it up? I usually feed them Spinach in the mornings and at night I give them cut up celery and parsley.    When I can find it at walmart they have these huge bags of precut kale or mustard greens but they are always out when I go!! Anyway I was just wondering what rotation you guys feed your buns their veggies??

My bunnies always get green leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, and one other thing – parsley, cilantro, broccoli, spinach… And I rotate the 3rd item about every week when I run out of everything!

I give my bunnies a combo of two of the following and switch it up every week when I do my grocery shopping: dandelion greens, parsley, romaine lettuce, cilantro, and sometimes a little bit of spinach ( if mine is going starting to wilt and I want to make sure it all gets used). in the summer they get spoiled with organic, fresh, homegrown versions of the above plus mint from my garden.

I feed at least 3 greens daily- romaine, parsley, endive, or other type of green- and then I usually add a small portion of approved veggie such as brocolli or brocoflower (my bunns go crazy over this).

So I grocery shop once a week and I buy  huge 6 pack of romaine hearts (we eat a lot of salad too) and for example this week I also bought 2 huge bunches of flat leaf parsley, and a bunch of collard greens along with broccoflower. So they will get 3 types of greens daily plus a small portion of broccoflower.  Next week I will still buy romaine- but try to mix up the other greens with cilantro, spinach,  or dandelion greens.  And their “salad topping” as I call it will be either snow pea pods, fennel, brocolli, cauliflour, etc.  I buy what looks the freshest and still provides a good variety.  My buns like Bok Choy but I have not bought it in a few months as I have not been happy with what it looks like- so I buy herb bunches which have been super fresh and quite large and only 89 cents .  (oops, edit on price)

I am lucky that our Meijer produce department is awesome- it is has a lot of different varieties of things, good prices and seemingly fast turnover.  They even sell snow pea pods, broccoli florets, radishes and a couple other things for salad in bulk.  So I can buy a portion of pea pods for .79 since I don’t need a lot to add 2 to each salad daily.

haha – only $89 huh? They better be pretty huge bunches! Don’t worry, we all know you mean $0.89. 🙂 It just amused me because I’m easily amusable.

                  LOL

Yup I change things up a bit, but I definitely have the ones I always feed-parsely, gr. pepper, broccoli, lettuces.

If you want to change it up a bit, mine love Riddichio, brussel sprouts, kale-you could try those!

My buns’ diet stays pretty stable, but I do change out greens. I grocery shop every 5-6 days. The veggies I buy last that whole time. Mine get two lettuces a day (romaine, endive, escarole, green or red leaf), one green a day (collard, dandelion, or mustard), and one herb a day (parsley: curly or flat, and cilantro). These are all veggies that they can handle, so I don’t have any issue changing them in and out according to the store supply, what looks good, what’s on sale…

They really do like the variety. I would encourage you to try some different things (one at a time!) and you might be surprised by how well your buns take to it. I think they would benefit from a green leafy lettuce in their daily diet. Celery is not huge on the nutritional scale, so you might reduce that in favor of a lettuce…

I have learned not to let my taste buds affect what I buy for the buns- I am not sure I would want to eat some of the bitter greens that they seem to love.  I had to become more “daring” in shopping for the bunnies to take advantage of the variety available.

Some greens/veggies/herbs just seem like they would be so strong and unpleasant- dill, mustard greens, arugula, etc……but all were huge hits with the buns.

I have yet to buy “Kolrabi”- it looks so “rubbery” and is oddly formed compared to what I usually feed- but one of these days I will have to try it for them.

Um.. Fern ONLY gets Romane lettuce, She loves it, but I do feel I should give her at least two different kinds of veggies. For about two weeks she got Bok choy stems to eat (they were leftovers from our Bok choy meal.) But mostly she only gets romane.

Coco gets romaine, a parsley ( flat or curly), a Mint ( beat you at bunches for .79! Katnip) and cilantro. I haven’t tried Dill for a while, as she turned her rabbity nose up at it, but may give it a go again, as the bunches have looked REALLY good. In fact, the stores here seem to have found a producer that has been shipping MASSIVE, super fresh bunches of parsley and cilantro. I also pick up a nice bunch of baby chicory every other week.

Plus, Romaine is cheap here – the basis of a Caesar salad, which comes with nearly every meal in Quebec….

In the summer, I can get HUGE bunches of all sorts of greens for .99 at Marche Jean Talon – so she gets an exciting variety of fancy organic things

She has liked baby bok choy, and occasionally kale or snow peas.

Other than that, I haven’t offered many other veggies, aside from the sliver of carrot.

My bunnies get kale, cilantro, dandelion greens and parsley every day. I give them the veggies separately throughout the day, instead of in a mixed salad. They also get carrot tops, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and some leaf lettuce when I have those. I’ve tried Swiss chard and curly endive, but they didn’t like those.

Ruby loves greens all kinds.    Cotton is well weird.   He goes crazy for romaine  cilantro  parsley  celery cut in small pieces  grass

Yet  if I give him cut celery for 2 days in a row he won’t eat it the 3rd day.    HE did that with parsley a few times too.    This last time he did actually eat it for 4 days in a row  instead of 2 then stop.   ON the 4th day I ran out.

OH they love arugula too.  Mine don’t get greens everyday.  Usually for about 2 weeks out of the month.  I start light and when I am getting low I go light again to give their tums time to adjust.

I am going to try mint agian.   Cotton would just look at it but never eat it.    I have to check if sage is ok for them too I got some of that and oregano.

Evansville- if you are in IN do you have a Meijer near you?!!

Personally that is the only place I buy veggies. My buns refuse to eat any greens from Kroger or any other local grocery. The Meijer veggies are typically local and very fresh, not to mention cheap!

Every week I buy parsley (flat leaf is their fav), endive, green leaf lettuce, brussel sprouts, dandelion greens, sometimes cilantro, escarole, turnip tops and those most of it. I will periodically throw in dill, rosemary, mint and other herbs.

I do live in Evansville In but we don’t have a Meijer. I usually get my veggies from a store called schnucks. They have a good variety and are very fresh. We go to walmart once a month and I’ll get some. But walmart does not have the best selection!!!

Every day, Mr. Bunny gets green leaf lettuce and parsley. Recently we’ve also started giving him carrot and radish tops. Occasionally he gets baby romaine lettuce too…And rarely when there’s other fresh veggies in the house, like cabbage, celery or broccoli, I’ll give him a piece

I’m probably not the best example – I’ve gotten a bit lazy since I have to give veg to 8 bunnies every night, so rather than feeding a combination, I feed one type of veg each night. Its usually a head of romaine one night, a few bunches of parsley the next, red leaf lettuce the next, and then cilantro. They still seem to be doing OK with this routine even though they only get one type of veg each day. I tend to keep the variety a little more limited because I have to buy the cheaper veg, and I think it has helped them digestively that I don’t switch it up TOO much.

I just LOVE meijer! I just wanted to say that firstly great produce section.

I used to feed my bunny one or two greens for the whole week and not even everyday of the week. Then perhaps buy something different or the same the next week. I also used to feed him way too many baby carrots, pears, bananas, and other high sugar treats. He got a big chunny though so he is eating super healthy now!

He will have 3 things everyday: Kale, or dandeline greens, with parsley or cilantro, with a 3rd wild card veggie. This week it is green cabbage but sometimes it is dill, carrot tops, raddish tops, or spinich. He doesn’t like the spinach much though. The occasional baby carrot and bites of fruit. I am still trying new things out with him too.

I know the potential veggie lists rabbit sites list can be overwhelming but I found a list online that covered key nutritional areas and was condensed–much much easier and affordable. Of course I may still buy some off the longer list but this gave me something to go by so i wasnt overwhelmed, broke and so Q-tip got variety. Plus my store has most of these. I plan on trying to grow some herbs this summer as well as kale and collards. Of the list below I divided it into 3 or 4 groups so she gets something different everyday.

                                            Ruth

This was the shortened list–the longer list was 4-5
