I’m rabbit-proofing my bedroom in preparation for house bunnies. Would you recommend blocking the bed so they cannot go under it? I’m a bit worried about accidents under there and me not being able to see them or clean them easily.

If you do block it off, how do you do that? boxes under the bed?

Yes, definitely do this. Boxes under the bed are not a big deterrent unfortunately – best to do either wood or some people I’ve heard have been able to use those grids. I guess it depends on your bed.

I have some under the bed storage bins – the long, flat, plastic kind. They just barely squish under my bed frame, so I think if I had one more, it would totally block it off and the bunnies wouldn’t be able to get under (if they were allowed in the bedroom, that is). Of course, that’s a fairly expensive option unless you actually have some stuff that you’d like to put into storage under your bed. 😉

*Unfortunately* when we moved, our bedframe broke in the process. We didn’t get around to replacing it right away, and then we got Meadow, and then we just never did get another one. So we have a boxspring on the floor. It works well for us because we don’t have to worry about the buns getting under the bed. This won’t work for people who actually CARE what their bedroom looks like, but for us, it’s not that big of a deal. ;O)

I need to. I have two of those plastic under the bed storage containers under there, up at the head of the bed. The bunnies had the bottom half under the bed to play and lounge. That worked great, they loved it, I didnt mind, and if one of my dogs barking scared them then that was their safe spot. Even though the dogs cant get to them, not that they would hurt the buns anyway. But now Hammer has learned to go between the bed and their cage (right next to my bed, literally RIGHT next to it) and can get behind the storage bins. Sometimes he gets stuck, other times he is just stubborn and I have to move the bed to get him out lol. Ive been putting it off, hoping he would just learn to be a good boy but no such luck. So im going to have to block all of the bed all together with NIC cubes this weekend.

I don’t and that’s Pepper’s favorite place.  She sleeps under my bed.  I have a mattress on a slatted loft bed from IKEA and every couple of weeks I pull the mattress up, peel back a couple of slats and run a vacuum there.
