Bugs is 4 months, and is going to be spayed within the next 2 weeks. I know that unspayed rabbits mark their territory with droppings of poop, as Bugs has been doing occasionally. She does it when she’s up on the couch and excited, just a few droppings here and there. It’s always just been 1-3, and usually I know when it’s coming, because she looks guilty and then binkys as soon as she’s done. But just now, she hopped up next to me on the couch, nudging me asking to be pet/groomed. I was watching tv and just giving her a little head massage and petting her, when she deciding she had had enough she hopped away.. leaving behind a pile of 20-25 poops. I’m just wondering if this has happened to anyone or what it means?? I’m just confused, she was on the couch and getting pet, but why so many?

Bunnies certainly poo as a means to mark territory, but because of how frequently they eat, they also just poop a lot and I suspect that large pile of poops on you was just her needing to poop. I would think the 1-3 poops on the couch are territorial, but the big pile is just when “you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go”

They poo when they are happy, sleepy, bored, excited, angry, territorial, frustrated……

hahaha good point. It was just weird for her to do, she’s really good about using her litter box except if its just a few, which I assume is territorial. But maybe she was just too lazy. Thanks guys

I think so!! I know my rabbit poop(in the air) like one or two when she binky or when super excited for pellets

Wick uses any high-intensity mood as an excuse to go to the bathroom outside the litterbox. He’ll be too relaxed, too happy, or too mad to hop to the litterbox, so he’ll do it where his butt happens to be. He also does it more often when I’m not around (state-dependent learning, what a bugger!). Glad to hear he’s not the only one !

Bunnies go to the bathroom regardless of what mood they’re in. They have to go so much and so frequently due to their diet. As others have said, they do mark their territory that way as well, but it’s typically only several droppings. If it’s huge pile of it, she probably just had to go.
She might not have anything against going in the litterbox itself, she was probably just so comfortable that she didn’t want to move.

I wouldn’t say that it is related to an emotion that they’re feeling… Dorothy poops a lot when she’s jumping out of the hay box or doing bunny 500s, but I always assume those are just accidents more than they’re a display of happiness haha

Baby bunnies just poop all the bloody time. Happy, sad, bored, energetic, whether they are sitting, laying, flopping, running etc
