We had the second movement of the symphony is G-flat(ulence) last night, so I had Mimzy out and was giving simethicone and massaging his tummy.

On one side, I felt something that reminded me of how a cat’s nipple feels…but…I don’t think male bunnies HAVE nipples..do they?

Maybe it was like one of those skin tags you find on people? 0_o It wasn’t even as big as a pinhead, but it felt like it was on his belly right behind his last rib on his right side. I couldn’t feel the same thing on the left, but his fur is thicker there.

        Any ideas?

males do have nipples, though my understanding is that theirs are less prominent than females. Though even in my female rabbits, all but Bailey’s, were not prominent either.

Well, I guess this wasn’t what you’d call prominent, it just happened to pop out at me, then when I went back to find it I couldn’t. 0_o
I remember what my lump felt like, so I can say it definitely wasn’t anything like that. I was just curious if they even had nipples…the boys I mean. I’m sure the females do.
Which reminds me, while I’m here…Pip is a spayed female…so is my older cat…I check my cat’s belly for lumps once a month. Is it necessary in rabbits to do this?

I definitely think it’s a good idea to check your bunnies each month for lumps and bumps — not just the belly, but the whole body. Even a spayed rabbits can get other types of bumps like abscesses or lumps not related to reproductive organs. Most of the time I will find something new by accident as I hang with them every evening and pet them, so many times I think we will find new stuff that way, but along with the other regular monthly maintenance checks it’s a good idea to really feel your bunny from nose, jaw and the rest of the body. I have found bumps mostly by doing little circles throughout their body.

Jack had a little lump on his back/spine which was there for a month and then when I took him into the vet, we couldn’t find it! Later I found it again, but it was much less and by the next week it was gone. But if it hadn’t disappeared, I’d want to make sure to get it checked out— and it was pretty small, so I wouldn’t have found that through normal petting (I was doing t-touch which is based on a circular motion and that’s how I found it.)   Bailey had little bumps on and in her ears they came and went as well that I kept close track of.  (The vet had taken off one but it regrew – it was just a strange inflammation thing that was not dangerous or painful to her.)

So really a monthly check for new things is a good idea

haha! I was just looking this up recently. Apparently they do have ’em but the internet has conflicting info as always. Male rabbits can develop issues with the nipple too though les common. I don’t know if being neutered make any difference….I would think it does. *shrugs*

MM, LOL, waaaaaaayyyyy too much time on your hands.
Mimzy is emailing me saying “she’s poking my nipples, and writing about it on line!!!!!” Pip was heard snorting with laughter, and Fiver is covering all private parts with litter.

Of course checking him once a month is a good idea, and BB gave you a great answer i can’t add anything worthwhile to.

Just that a comedian asked, Why do men need nipples? Whatever the species.

And I’ve not noticed nipples on any of my boys…But-so…anyone have links on if they do or don’t? All I’m finding is ‘definitive’ yes’s and no’s heheh -sooo now I’m confused?

                        I’ve read that too!

Here’s a demo of conflicting info from what I would have thought reliable sources.

Dana Krempels doesn’t balk at the mention of nipples here: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Rabbits-…Rabbit.htm

Jerz, thanks for that Dana Krempels article…huh…who’d have thought…?

Well, I haven’t been able to find this on Mimzy again, but when he goes back to the vet for his 6 week checkup for his teeth, I’ll mention it to her.

My husband once asked me “Why does Wiley have nipples he does not need them?” (male neutered cat), Wiley was white and stress groomed his belly sometimes- so his nipples were obvious.  And I replied “Why do YOU have nipples?”  He did not have an answer for that- and he never asked me that question again.  I think I stumped him by answering a question with a question!!!
