Do attractive, spacious indoor rabbit cages exist?

 I have a four month old Netherland Dwarf rabbit and she is currently living in a Super Pet Extra Large cage (about 42 x 20) that I bought on Craigslist for next to nothing. Currently she is allowed to free roam my sizable bedroom almost all day long, but I will be moving to an apartment and would like to upgrade her as soon as I can afford to. I would ideally like a large two level (two FULL levels, not just a dinky ledge to sit on) cage that would give her twice the living space without taking up precious floor space in the apartment. However, I can’t find anything that fits what I’m looking for. If I don’t find something I like, then I will most likely take the plunge next summer when I have the time and buy all the materials I need to build her a two or three level indoor “hutch”.

 

Does my dream cage exist? Has anyone found a sizable two level cage? I know a lot of people use storage cubes or X-pens but I really don’t like the storage cube idea and while I have an X-pen for outdoor playtime I need to conserve floor space for a permanent living area for her.

Can anyone suggest some cages/indoor hutches? I’m not limiting myself to any price point right now, I spend almost all of my money on her anyway.

The 48 inch one – I have one for my Dutch pair – I’ve had many many more when I used to foster.  Unfortunately they are costly but I’ve had mine for about 9 years and I’m very happy with it.  They would be great for a Netherland Dwarf.

I just vacuum the carpet. It’s very easy. They have replacements for the carpet as well when you want to refresh it.

A cat size liter box fits easily into the doors.

I have one of the two-story Leith Petwerks condos as well, and I’m really happy with it–I like that they have a variety of accessories and customization options as well. Both of my bunnies have seemed to love it as well. We originally had the carpet in the upper floor, but our previous bunny started chewing it up and peeing on it, so we finally just removed the carpet and haven’t tried putting a new one in for Captain Danger. We also bought extra wooden “chew guards” that go around the edge of the condo floors, because our previous bunny liked to chew on the edges.

Regarding cleaning: we keep a litter box on the lower level. I also have a small broom and dustpan (I think it was sold as a cat litter broom?) that I use to sweep both floors of the cage, vacuum around the edges if necessary, and then I wipe the floors down with Nature’s Miracle.

If you are handy you can build a cage for a pretty reasonable price as well – I prefer DIY caging since I can customize it to my animals needs. That one does look nice though.

Yes the C&C (Cubes and coroplast) cages are great, you just buy these cube things (that are meant to make bookshelves) and zip tie them into any formation you like, and line with coroplast! You can put foam under the coroplast to make it softer, and put blankies and carpet on top. The coroplast is plastic so very easy to clean. The best part is, you can put your bunnies in the bathroom for an afternoon, tear it down and rebuild when your/they’re bored Totally check out the habitat section

Some tips-more zip ties over less. Buy a big bag as they are cheaper the more you buy (zip ties are a necessity when you have buns )
Don’t build right up against a wall so that you can get back there and clean, and consider your back and your flexibilty when building so that it’s easy to clean. My first condo was a back breaker I’ve learned

 I found the hutch we use for our bunny on Amazon.  It was expensive, but I love it.  It has the two floors with multiple openings.  The top is divided into an open space with a den (both openings have doors for easy access) and the top opens on both sides.  The second floor slides out for easy cleaning and is hard plastic, so it wipes down easy.  A ramp leads to the bottom which, unfortunatly, doesn’t have a bottom tray (we’re still looking for one that will fit easily).  And there’s a door to the side and front of that.  Our bunny love dashing up the ramp and jumping out of the second story and running laps through the doors  Here’s some pictures.

That’s a great set-up! I was looking at hutches for indoors. I’ll probably end up building one.
