I’m looking for some ideas for a custom cage for our rabbit!

I’m thinking something double story so she has places to go. She’s not big on toys but likes digging, has anyone ever build a big box into your cage? Does it cause litter box confusion?

She also likes to rearrange her cage. Does anyone have any ideas on things she could pick up and relocate or push around? (Currently she enjoys pulling the grate off of her litter box.)

She also HATES blankets and towels (wads them up out of her way) so has anyone had any experience with either only wooden flooring or using that out-doors plastic carpet?

Any tips? Things you wish you did different?

          Hi there!

I’m a big fan of using NIC cube grids to make condo’s. You can make any size or shape you’d like, with multiple levels.

Some of my bunnies have loved the barrel roller toy, and wicker balls are always very popular. Chewy (another member’s bun) loves pushing around a beach ball!

In my condo I use peel and stick vinyl tiles on top of plywood for the levels, with fleece clipped down on top (so they can’t push it around). Wouldn’t recommend wooden flooring as it will absorb pee. I used to use carpet, but mine tend to chew so I switched to fleece to reduce the chance of blockages.

I haven’t used a digging box with mine, because I know they would pee in it… we went through some trouble with Bertha’s box habits so I don’t want to risk confusing her!

            Thank you!

The peel and stick vinyl is a great idea!

I tried a dig box but it became a litter box to my dismay :-/ I suppose you could give it a try though, experiment with different fillings for example soil, shredded paper, plastic balls etc.

I would opt for vinyl or tarp over the flooring if you use wood as the base. Then you could have maybe a large tile or two for a cool spot and then fleece elsewhere as a warmer spot.

I know you said she doesn’t like blankets as she pushes them out of the way but is she maybe enjoying the digging and moving of them? My bunnies don’t like laying on blankets but do enjoy digging at them! That’d be a good option for something she could ‘relocate’ too.

What toys does she have? Stacking cups, cardboard tubes, baby keys, wooden dumbbell type thingies, balls etc are things she can throw around and move
