› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Dini still has a testicle???
I groom Dini daily since he gets mats so easily. He hates it but to groom his underside I flip him onto his back and brush him. I flipped him over earlier today like normal and seen and felt what looks distinctly like a testicle…
Now I know that I had him neutered I didn’t imagine it. I’m not that crazy yet lol. I don’t know if it is an abscess or a growth or what. And it is difficult to look at because he is SO hairy.
But guess we are taking a trip to a vet. Called the vet that neutered him but it’s vacation time I suppose. So taking him to one a bit closer on Thursday.
When they desex they..er..for lack of better words, leave the actual ball ‘sack’ there and just remove the testicles, maybe thats what you saw?
I thought that at first as well but you can definitely feel something there.
hmm sorry im not sure then, maybe best to get a vet to check, it would probably be easy to tell if it was his man jewels, as rabbits are huge haha, and i imagine it would be hard for the vet to forget to remove one…at least you would hope so. Fingers crossed its nothing to worry about ![]()
Could it be a matted fur?
Sometimes they make a mistake, or get part of it but there was more that hadn’t dropped? Anyway, it’s a good idea to get it looked at in case there’s a growth in there instead (like a little cyst, nothing really dangerous so don’t panic) that needs to be seen. A post-neuter check up is never a bad idea.
Mmm… Hernia or abscess? Or one teste didn’t descend but surely vet would have informed you when Dini was neutered.
Keep us updated. That little fluffer had sure had some medical oddities in his young life.
Wooly had one that did not descend. There was something there that the vet thought was a testicle until she looked at it. Realized it was a fatty deposit and the real testicle was somewhere else.
It is definitely not matted fur.
I really hope that the vet didn’t tell me that one wasn’t descended! I parted the hair more this morning and it really looks like a testicle.
His has an appointment tomorrow evening.
Poor little guy – let us know how it goes!
Very weird. Didn’t you have an issue getting him neutered (or am I thinking of another member?) Let us know what the vet says.
I don’t recall any issues with Dini getting neutered other than his weight.
Poor wee bub.
Here’s hoping it’s something easily sorted.
(((((((((Hugs))))))))))) for you, Sonn. You’ll both be in my prayers.
You’d be surprised how many accounts I’ve read of the vet missing something. Or something showing up later that wasn’t there before (including the opposite set of organs!)
Some extra noserubs here for Dini as well. (((((((((((Noserubs))))))))))))
Hugs @ Dini!
The vet thinks he definitely still has a testicle after examining him. He is scheduled for another neuter on the 25th.
Awwww…the poor little guy. That sucks having to go through that twice. And for you, since I guess your paying twice to get the job done.
He was not happy after the first time so I can imagine how happy he will be after the second lol. I don’t mind paying again as long as it is actually done this time.
That’s BS that they’re making you pay all over again for their mistake? That’s absurd! How are you at fault for the vet making a mistake? I would not be a happy camper and would probably find a different vet, they definitely don’t deserve your business if they aren’t going to make it right with no cost to you. Horrible!
This is a different vet. The vet I took him to the first time is on vacation. The vet he is going to this time is only charging half since it is only half of a surgery. There is no way I would pay a second time if I was taking him back to the same vet.
Oh! That’s much better (sorry, I may have missed where you said that in the post). So horrible for the little guy having to do it all over again.
I’ll be thinking of him! It’s always so stressful and I’m such a baby that I can’t help be overly dramatic about everything that happens to my babies so I can only imagine the stress of having to do it all over too! Hopefully he’s like my guy was and comes hopping home looking for a big meal this time!
Poor Dini. =(
Perhaps what happened was similar to Wooly’s situation. Perhaps there was something there that the vet removed, but instead of realizing it like my vet did your vet thought the job was done.
Awhhh poor guy ): Good luck with the surgery!
Aw…poor Diniboo.
I’d stock up on treats now…he is going to be a bit cross afterwards I think. 0_o
(((((((((((((Successful remaining plum-picking vibes)))))))))))
We’ll be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
Awww poor little dude!! Sending Vibes.
I don’t know if your like me and the confrontational type-but I have to ask-are you going to question the vet that did the neuter to see why he couldn’t count to two? I’m dying to know if he has an explanation for this!!
I am very confrontational when it comes to things like these.
Once the vet is back at the office I will be asking/demanding an explanation.
Good Gads! Having to go through surgery again? Talk about adding insult to injury. Poor Dini! Good vibes to both Dini and you.
I talked to Dini’s vet today.
According to her she was unaware that Dini had an undescended testicle and said while uncommon he could have had a third testicle that she didn’t know about. She says that she removed two during surgery and I was free to ask the rest of the staff that were in the room with her. She has offered to do the surgery free of charge and free pain medication and follow up visit if I choose to keep Dini with her.
I am unsure at this point if I will be taking him back to her on Wednesday or keeping the appointment with the other vet.
I do like her better than the vet I have taken him to since she seems to be more knowledgeable when it comes to rabbits and is more gentle when handling them. But I am still wary.
you could always rename him Lance Bunstrong…
If it were me, I would take the free surgery. If you like how he is treated there, then I don’t see any reason to race off to a different vet. So there was a mistake or Dini really did have a third testicle. It isn’t the worst thing in the world. You’ll just have a super ticked off bunny.
I agree with LBJ10.
Yes I am expecting a very upset Dini. I believe I will be going with her instead of the other vet. Mistakes happen.
