Alright, Sharon, my approx 7 months mini rex is digging holes in my back yard.
But lets back up a little bit here.
I live in north florida, (for now. its miserable here. 10/10 do not recommend) and their hutch is on my back porch. (screened in, very safe) two story hutch, top is the bedroom area. bottom doesn’t have a floor, so its on my tile on the back porch, nice and cool for them. this is also where their litter box, water, food and second salt wheel are located. on the top floor i have a ceramic tile for them to lay on, a frozen two liter and a fan. all in the shade of my porch, and the shade of their hutch. I have a very small back yard, probably about 20 feet by 30 feet. Fenced in, lots of SAFE plants to nibble on, shady areas under some ivy growing all over my fence. (they can’t reach the ivy, so they can’t eat it, they just lay in the shade) lots of trees, and i even built a little bunny house they can run into if they get scared, or hot. Lately, Sharon has been digging a monstrous hole in the back left corner of my yard. Im scared she’s going to get out, (I’m friends with the neighbors, I can get her back, but still) Im just wondering why she’s digging? she seems to enjoy it and I hate filling it in because she’s worked so hard. Ive lined the fence line where her hole is with slabs of slate, but I’m concerned she’s going to dig down deep enough to get under them. I don’t really think she’s trying to escape, but I’m very concerned. Ive heard about the dig a hole and put a cage bottom in the hole. and I’d do that but she’s going to look at me like I’m stupid. Im in a unique situation because she’s indoor and outdoor. also, when i let them out in the yard, i DO leave the screen door and their cage door open and they know they can come and go as they please..
Help!!!
