Hello, I just made a digging box for my bunny, she is a spayed female. I made it out of shredded paper, but I think I need to switch over to soil. She is mistaking it for a litterbox and peeing in it. I think soil could fix that problem. What type/brand of soil is safe for her?

I have heard of some people using topsoil for dig boxes but it might not be much better. I have a dig box for my buns and no matter what I used they liked to play and use it as a little pan.

I ended up just putting a towel on the bottom and filling it with toiler paper rolls over time. Every now and then I scatter some kibble in it to give them something to hunt inside.

Good luck with your dig box!

I made a dig box out of shredded paper for my bun. She did start going to the bathroom in it, which wasn’t good though. You could try using Carefresh in your bun’s dig box and see how that turns out instead of using soil?

I thought about carefresh but she eats everything! She ate the paper as well. I don’t want her eating bedding.

I have used just larger pieces of crumpled up brown paper, usually I just repurpose it from when I get a package in the mail that uses it as packaging. I’ll stuff it in their tunnels and their maze.  It’s not quite digging, but my buns will shred it up and push it around to “burrow”. They may eat a little but if it’s not huge amounts it’s safe.

Ooooh, yes! That brown packaging paper is a hit with my buns. That could be an idea! ♡
